January 2015 Poplarville pistol match results
The weather could have been a lot worse. It could have been cold, like Biloxi was yesterday, and it could have rained like it was predicted to do. But neither happened and we were done in record time. With five quick, but challenging stages, we zipped through the match and were done shooting by 11 AM. We had an even dozen shooters and the two squads moved quickly.
The results weren’t all that surprising, but there seems to be a pattern developing. With his second match win of the weekend,
December 2014 Poplarville pistol match results
The last match of the year, although lightly attended, was a good one. The weather was perfect, the stages challenging and the shooters were ready. Well, most of them were.
The time of year seemed to keep a lot of regulars at home today, but that didn’t stop the 12 competitors who did show up from having a great match. We had hoped to put on the big mover on stage 5, but we ended up pulling it out because of equipment failures. That’s too bad, because it looked challenging but actually wasn’t all that bad in the “after-match”. We’ll get it working reliably some day.
Even though it a quart low from a full match, that didn’t stop the overall winner from walking away with the top spot. Congratulations to Read more…
December Poplarville 3-gun match results
We have moved into that time of year when the weather can be great one day and downright crappy the next. Today, it was overcast, breezy and cool until the very last shooter on the very last stage , when the sun finally came out. It hovered around 50 all day, as compared to a balmy 79 on Saturday afternoon for setup. Oh, well.
Once again, the turnout was a bit light, but for those that did show up, it was a good match. We shot four stages, which really tested the shooters skills. In fact, no one shot a clean match today. When the numbers were tallied, it was Read more…
November Poplarville pistol match cancelled!
The November 2014 pistol match in Poplarville has been cancelled because of scheduling conflicts with the setup crew. We will resume the monthly match in December.
November Poplarville 3-gun match results
Once again, the weather was great, although the turnout was light. For some reason, only ten shooters came to test their skills (and luck) today over four challenging stages. We may be partial, but we think our brand of 3-gun is not your average match, and it offers challenges not normally found in traditional range-bound settings. Where else can you run through the woods blasting away at targets, while avoiding the hazards of stump holes, snakes, and evil vines looking to trip you?
Whatever the reason for not coming, those not there today missed a good one. Whatever seemed simple, wasn’t. Whatever looked hard, was harder than it looked. Returning to the top spot was Read more…
October 2014 Poplarville pistol match results
The weather was once again a factor, but somewhat unexpectedly this month. While the past weekend was perfect weather at the 3-gun match, this weekend was Summer-like hot. But it didn’t deter the 18 shooters from having a good time today. Once again, the stages pushed everyone to the limit and sometimes beyond. The mix ranges from 8 shots to 36 shots. There was also lots of movement. Challenging, but fair was the best was to describe today’s stages.
After the scores had been tallied, the results spoke for themselves. Our overall winner and Open division winner was Read more…
September 3-gun match reminder
It’s that time of the month again! No, not that time, it’s 3-gun time.
The match starts at 9 AM but show up by 8:30 for registration.
September 2014 Poplarville pistol match results
After the rainout in Biloxi Friday afternoon, we expected a better turnout than we got today, but those that did show up were a bit surprised at the simple appearing, yet surprisingly challenging stages that confronted them. We had sixteen shooters overall, and one brand new shooter to the sport and to our club. He did great, even with the surprisingly tough stages. Hopefully, he will come back next month and let his wife shoot next time!
When we showed up this morning, it was 68° and no rain since mid-week. Hopes ran high with the setup crew that it would stay about 72° all day, but that was quickly passed by. Although it was warm, it was not miserable and the shooters managed to get done by Noon. That’s always a good thing.
The overall winner was Read more…
August 2014 Poplarville pistol match cancelled
The August match has been cancelled due to the rain at the range on Saturday evening. The road became impassible very quickly and will not be usable for days. We will resume shooting 3-gun in Poplarville on September 7. The next pistol match will be September 14.
July 2014 Poplarville pistol match results
I hate to sound like a broken record, but once again, it was hot! We expect this kind of weather in the Summer, but that doesn’t mean we enjoy it. If we could only have shot last weekend. Oh, well.
We had a decent turnout for the hot weather. A total of 18 shooters made it today for the usual fun, but challenging stages. We tried to keep it short because of the heat, and we managed to finish the last shooter by Noon, so it wasn’t too bad. Even the road was decent today, despite the rain late in the week.
But enough of the fluff. Let’s hear the results! Our overall winner was Read more…
