January Brothers N Arms USPSA Pistol Match Results
After a week of winter weather colder than North Dakota had this week, today saw a return to a more normal South Mississippi. Other than a couple of bays that were still pretty slushy and muddy from the snow, the range condition was great with temperatures that were mild and wind that was cooperative for the most part. Forty eight shooters took advantage of the mild environment and showed up for 5 stages with a great mixture of paper, steel, no-shoots, and hard-cover. Today very clearly favored the mental shooter!
We’ve had some close finishes in the past, but I think today’s top two shooters beat anything I’ve seen before. They were from different divisions, both of which they each won very handily. But at the end of the day, Read more…

January 2018 Poplarville pistol match results
January seems to be the month when the shooter’s resilience to cold is tested. A year ago, the weather was a crisp 22 degrees when the setup staff arrived. Today it was WAY warmer at a balmy 24. Interestingly, we had exactly the same number of shooters today as one year ago. Both matches had great pre-registration, but both suffered from cold-itis. Once again, the January match had 23 shooters, down from 38 at peak registration. Last night, a wise man predicted a 40% bailout rate. I thought that would be excessive. As it turns out, he was right on the money.
In any event, the match went on with 6 quick, but still challenging stages, where only two stages took more than 10 seconds for the fastest shooter, and those were in the mid-11s. With just 108 rounds spread out over the 6 stages and only 3 squads, things moved along as a blistering pace. The first squad was done in just a bit more than 2 hours, with the second squad about 5 minutes behind. Shooting was done by 11:30 or so and the range deserted by Noon.
The top spot on the Poplarville podium saw a new face today. Congratulations to Read more…

January 2018 Poplarville 3-Gun match results
After a week of extremely low (for us) temperature all over South Mississippi, Sunday saw a return to moderation. Although the breeze kept the felt temperature a bit cool, it was actually 60 degrees when the match ended. That sure beats highs of the 30’s earlier in the week.
The much improved weather convinced 18 folks that today would be a good day to get back outside and have fun in the woods of Poplarville. With 4 deceptively challenging stages, plenty of shooters found ways to affect their scores negatively. Only four shooters shot the match clean.
It was a close match today. Coming out on top was Read more…
