April 2012 3-Gun match reminder

March 31, 2012 Leave a comment

The monthly 3-gun match will be held on April 1, 2012 at the Poplarville range (no foolin’!). Bring the usual assortment of rifle, pistol and shotgun and a bunch of ammo for each. There’s just no telling what you might find.

Also, April is the month to renew your membership in the club. Starting this month, the fee for non-members will go up to $15.00, while the member rate will remain at $10.00. Your membership runs from April to March and gets you a $5.00 discount on ALL matches, plus a key to the range. You also support the club and help us buy more props for better shooting. If you shoot only 5 times a year, you will still benefit from joining.

Well, another great day of shooting is history. Thanks to all that helped make this match work, without you this match would not get out of the starting blocks . We had some challenging stages and some fairly easy stages. Sorry for the mixup in stage 4 score sheets, seems I omitted 7 score sheets. I will take care of this on Monday so don’t call if you don’t see your score on stage 4 Madness. Read more…

March 2012 Pearlington match reminder **Special Classifier Match**

March 12, 2012 Leave a comment

The Pearlington club will hold its annual classifier match on Sunday, March 18, 2012. The entire match will consist of 6 different USPSA classifier stages. If you want to get your first classification or a classification in a new division, this is the match for you. You only need 6 classifier scores to get a ranking, so if you are new to the sport, you will be able to get a ranking before the Mississippi Classic in May. The match fee will increase to $15.00 because of the additional classifier stage fee for USPSA. Read more…

March 2012 SMPSA pistol match results

March 11, 2012 4 comments

Congratulations to the 22 shooters we had today. The match came off without any major hitches, and the weather was reasonably cooperative. It was alternately sunny, then cloudy, and always breezy, but thanks to a new stock of old brake rotors courtesy of Wayne, stands blowing over wasn’t an issue. One squad shot so hard that they broke two small poppers off their bases. In reality, the poppers were pretty much worn out and just died. We had one unfortunate disqualification, though.

The scores were recorded pretty well, too. There were a few math errors (easily fixed) and a couple of shooters who forgot to number their score sheets or numbered them wrong, but no missing times or shot counts coming up short. When the smoke cleared, and the results computed, there was a surprising winner at the top.

March 2012 Poplarville pistol match reminder

March 10, 2012 1 comment

The monthly USPSA pistol match will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012. Don’t forget about the time change tomorrow morning. Daylight Saving Time goes into effect at 2:00 AM, Sunday, March 11 and that means if you don’t set your clock, you will be an hour late getting up for the match. If you are an hour late getting up for the match, you will be an hour late arriving at the range. If you are an hour late arriving at the range, we will already be shooting without you. If we are already shooting without you, you will have to catch up. If you have to catch up, you will be rushed. If you are rushed, you will shoot like crap. Don’t shoot like crap. Set your clock ahead tonight!

2012 Mississippi Classic

March 6, 2012 Leave a comment

If you were planning on shooting the 2012 Mississippi Classic in Jackson in May, and you haven’t signed up yet, it’s too late to guarantee a spot. The match filled up on February 24. Apparently, a big Texas match for the same weekend was cancelled and a bunch of those shooters decided to come east. There is a waiting list, but there are likely to be lots of people waiting.

March 2012 3-gun match alternate scoring

March 5, 2012 Leave a comment

Since quite a few shooters thought the last stage of the March match had been cancelled, the official scores show a four-stage match. However, if we were to drop the last stage (unofficially), then the scores would look a bit different. The winner would still be Bryant, but the rest of the order would change. The scores here are totally unofficial, but just reflect the three stages that everyone shot.

March 2012 SMPSA 3-gun match results (**Updated**)

**Results updated** Mike Christensen’s score for the hilltop stage was corrected, because of a scoring error he wasn’t given credit for hitting the bonus target. This affected the overall scores. It has been corrected and the new results posted.

Great weather produced a great turnout. We had 22 shooters today, which is a high for quite some time. Thanks to all the shooters that came out today to shoot some really challenging stages. The hilltop proved to be a challenge to over half the shooters, who timed out and were unable to complete the course. Long distances are challenging enough, without the spring loaded platform. It actually appeared quite challenging, but if you didn’t rush, it wasn’t all that bad. Many shooters succumb to the lure of the bonus 500 yard shot. If you hit it, you scored a 25 second deduction to your stage time, but far too many competitors spent way more than the 25 seconds banging shot after shot after shot at that really small target. It ended up costing them big time. Read more…

The Poplarville club will hold the monthly 3-gun match on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the range in Poplarville at 9:00 AM. The weather should cooperate so brings lots of ammo! Rumor has it the long-range rifle targets will make an appearance. If you don’t know where your long gun shoots at 400+ yards, figure it out or bring even more ammo.
