BPSA Small

This month we had 60 shooters come out to shoot and five pretty challenging stages.  Thanks to everyone who pre-registered and made the match signup go smoothly.  It really does make a difference when you pre-register.

We would also like to thank everyone who came out today and I want to especially thank everyone who helped setup and break down. We really appreciate it.

Congratulations to this month’s winners….

Swamp Eagles have left the range

February 27, 2016 2 comments

It is now official. The Swamp Eagles will not shoot at the SMGA range in Pearlington in the future. Negotiations have ended and the decision of the SMGA Board of Directors is final. Although we are extremely disappointed, we respect the decision of the Board.

The Swamp Eagles pistol match will be held at the Poplarville range for at least one more time. That will be on March 20, 2016. Tom has begun the search for a new home range. He is hoping to find a range in the general vicinity of the SMGA range so the travel distance doesn’t change much for regular shooters. Please check back here for future updates.

If you are aware of a range that would be willing to host the Swamp Eagles pistol match, then please contact Tom Duchmann directly. His email is

February 2016 Pearlington (Swamp Eagles) pistol match results

Today was a bit strange for the Swamp Eagles club. For the first time in about 20 years, we didn’t shoot at our home range. But the important things is, we did shoot somewhere. While the negotiations are still going on with the SMGA board, the match moved to the Poplarville, where the board is friendlier to action pistol shooting (the board being Wayne and Bill).

Although some of our regular shooters chose not to attend today’s match, they missed a good one. The weather was great, with very mild temperatures and overcast skies. Turnout was decent considering the relocation of the match. There were 30 shooters competing, but unfortunately, there were 2 trips to Dairy Queen today.

But there were also winners. The top spot on the podium was taken by  Read more…

Although negotiations are still going on between the Swamp Eagles and SMGA for use of their range, Tom has decided to temporarily move his match to the Poplarville range.

So, next Sunday, the Swamp Eagles will hold their match in Poplarville, instead of Pearlington. This move is only temporary but it will allow the club to continue shooting our regular schedule.

If you are planning on shooting, please consider pre-registering, by clicking here.

Dawson PrecisionThe gully. Two simple words that just don’t do it justice. In the summer, it’s unbearably hot, often inaccessible and avoided like the plague. In the winter though, it beckons us into its maw, swallowing brass, mags, and occasionally a gun or two. But the reward is sweet. Today, the pistol match returned to the gully for the first time in several years. Although we shot it last week for 3-gun, that was only with 11 shooters. Today’s complement of 32 shooters were put to the test. Some conquered it and others, well… let’s just say they got their money’s worth. It was forty rounds and a hundred yards of fun. If you haven’t shot it before, you are definitely missing an experience.

The rest of the match must have also been fun, because I had more compliments for the fun level than I can recall in recent memory. That makes all the hard work worth it!

Now, on to the results. This was a match that often favored the Open shooter.  The Open and Limited divisions had an almost equal number of shooters, and Open shooters finished 2 through 10, but the overall winner actually came from the Limited ranks. It wasn’t very close, either. The top spot overall today goes to  Read more…

It was a great day any way you looked at it. The weather was fine, the shooting was better and things went off without a hitch. Although the turnout was a lighter than normal, at just eleven shooters, it didn’t diminish the stages one bit. They ranged from short and focused on gun handling, to long and challenging with tons of steel. And best of all, we finally got back in the gully!

Although the shooting was competitive, in the end it wasn’t close. The shooter who won the match managed to shoot the cleanest and most consistent of anyone, and that’s the secret to winning at 3-gun. On top was Read more…
