Swamp Eagles suspend future matches

May 15, 2016 Leave a comment

ActionShooting Supply iconAs most everyone knows, Tom’s match (aka. Pearlington, Swamp Eagles, etc.) lost it’s home range in February of this year. For the past four months the match has been shot at the Poplarville range, and although a search is still underway for a new home, Tom has decided to suspend further matches. While the club is not going away just yet, Tom is also considering selling the entire match to anyone that is interested. This would include all the props and the rights to the USPSA club charter. If you or anyone you know is interesting that starting a club at your home range, please contact Tom directly.

Once a final decision has been made on the future of the Swamp Eagles, we’ll be sure to let everyone know. But, effective June 2016, the Swamp Eagles will not shoot.

May 2016 Pearlington (Swamp Eagles) pistol match results

Although the web master forgot to post the match notification this week, the turnout was actually pretty good, at least for as long as the match has been in Poplarville. We had 25 shooters come out today and they were treated unusually pleasant weather. The humidity was mild, as were the temperatures. So, the environment was ripe for a great performance.

At least a few shooters had a good match and their scores put them on top. The overall match winner was  Read more…

April 2016 Pearlington (Swamp Eagles) pistol match results

The loss of our home range seems to be taking a toll on the match participation. For the second time, the Swamp Eagles shot at the Poplarville range and the turnout was quite modest. While we had a bunch of new shooters, which is great for the sport, the regular Swamp Eagles shooters numbered only about five. I guess the longer drive is just reason enough not to see more regulars.

In any event, the match today went off well. There were 18 shooters present, so the two squads moved along well. We were done before 12:30 and all picked up pretty much as we went. The stages were light on steel (4 pieces total) and lighter on no-shoots (2 total), and the actual courses were not overly demanding. This also helped the pace of shooting.

When the scores were done, the results looked like this. The overall winner and Open division winner was Read more…

March 2016 Swamp Eagles Pistol match **Cancelled**

March 19, 2016 Comments off

Due to the rain this week, the road up the hill is impassible, so the match has been cancelled! Sorry for the late notice. We had hoped to get in, but we tried this afternoon, and it just won’t work.

Swamp Eagles have left the range

February 27, 2016 2 comments

It is now official. The Swamp Eagles will not shoot at the SMGA range in Pearlington in the future. Negotiations have ended and the decision of the SMGA Board of Directors is final. Although we are extremely disappointed, we respect the decision of the Board.

The Swamp Eagles pistol match will be held at the Poplarville range for at least one more time. That will be on March 20, 2016. Tom has begun the search for a new home range. He is hoping to find a range in the general vicinity of the SMGA range so the travel distance doesn’t change much for regular shooters. Please check back here for future updates.

If you are aware of a range that would be willing to host the Swamp Eagles pistol match, then please contact Tom Duchmann directly. His email is L1670@aol.com.

February 2016 Pearlington (Swamp Eagles) pistol match results

Today was a bit strange for the Swamp Eagles club. For the first time in about 20 years, we didn’t shoot at our home range. But the important things is, we did shoot somewhere. While the negotiations are still going on with the SMGA board, the match moved to the Poplarville, where the board is friendlier to action pistol shooting (the board being Wayne and Bill).

Although some of our regular shooters chose not to attend today’s match, they missed a good one. The weather was great, with very mild temperatures and overcast skies. Turnout was decent considering the relocation of the match. There were 30 shooters competing, but unfortunately, there were 2 trips to Dairy Queen today.

But there were also winners. The top spot on the podium was taken by  Read more…

Although negotiations are still going on between the Swamp Eagles and SMGA for use of their range, Tom has decided to temporarily move his match to the Poplarville range.

So, next Sunday, the Swamp Eagles will hold their match in Poplarville, instead of Pearlington. This move is only temporary but it will allow the club to continue shooting our regular schedule.

Swamp Eagles (Pearlington) pistol matches cancelled until further notice

February 6, 2016 Leave a comment

The Swamp Eagles club, also known as Tom’s match or the Pearlington match, is currently renegotiating its agreement to conduct USPSA pistol matches with the South Mississippi Gun Association (SMGA), the owner of the range where we shoot. The board of directors of SMGA is concerned that some rounds may not be hitting any berm.

Our club has safely conducted USPSA sanctioned matches at SMGA for 20 years. However, until the concerns of the board are addressed, all future pistol matches are cancelled.
