August 2018 Biloxi (DSSA) pistol match results

We hoped we could get the match in without weather interruptions, but that didn’t happen. Two brief but intense rain showers disrupted the match around the 4th and 5th stages but they didn’t mess things up too much. They lasted only a few minutes and the targets made it through reasonably well. But that couldn’t put a damper on the great shooting that was on display today.

A total of 61 competitors faced off on 5 challenging stages. There were turtle targets in abundance and plenty of hard cover and no shoots lurking about. Strong hand only and weak hand only were tested on the classifier, as well. There wasn’t much room to hose today. In fact, only one shooter in the entire match got all his hits and had zero no-shoots or mikes (even the no-penalty variety). Way to go, Scott! But it took flat-out speed to win today.

August Brothers N Arms USPSA Pistol Match Results

Well, like the man said, sometimes you just get lucky.  The morning in Hattiesburg was foggy and over cast.  Thunderstorms in other parts of south Mississippi caused some shooters to withdraw (you know who ya’ll are…I think you just wanted an excuse to stay in bed).  Less than an hour after the match was over, the rain began in Hattiesburg and continues even as I write this.  Today’s special classifier match, however, went off without a hitch from the weather, a rarity this year for the clubs in our area.

We had 45 guns at the range today to shoot six fairly challenging Classifiers.  Things moved quickly, both during the match and with breakdown.  This type of match is quick to shoot, but takes extra effort to set up correctly, so many, many thanks for the help with setup this morning.

When all was said and done, today’s overall winner was very clear. Read more…

Brothers N Arms USPSA Match Weather Update

August 17, 2018 Leave a comment

Having received a few questions about the weather, I thought I would let everyone know that tomorrow’s match is still on.   Should we get heavy weather overnight or if the forecast for tomorrow morning should change for the worse, we will do our best to send out a notification via this blog by 6:00 am tomorrow morning.  The range has received no rain to speak of and is in great shape.  In the event that it does rain after the match has started, we will shoot as long as pasters will stick to the targets and as long as it is safe.  Like the man said, scared money don’t win! See ya’ll in the morning.

USPSA-Style Movement Course in New Orleans *UPDATE*

August 16, 2018 Leave a comment

Range fees for this class have been waived so it’s now an even better bargain!

Are you looking to up your game to the next level? Have you taken several shooting classes, but still wonder why you aren’t crushing your buddies? Maybe it’s not your shooting, maybe you just don’t know how to move through a stage as efficiently as the top shooters.

On September 9-10, 2018, you will have the chance to take a class from Kita Busse, a recognized expert in movement training for action shooting. This is a class about movement training for USPSA format matches, but done in a live fire format. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then check out the details here.

August 2018 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionWe finally managed to get the July match in, but it took three tries over 5 weeks. The regularly scheduled July match was rained out the afternoon before with a monsoon. We rescheduled the match for the 5th Sunday and the same thing happened, with a frog strangler the afternoon before the match. The range might have been OK, but the road in was out of commission. Today, the rain gods stayed somewhere else and we got to shoot 6 tough stages that were just waiting for us all this time.

The turnout was a bit light due to some late cancellations and a big handful of no-shows this morning, but that just meant the 25 folks that did make it out were able to breeze through the match and be done well before Noon. It was hot at times, but we had a nice breeze most of the morning and when you were under one of the pop-ups, it was almost pleasant.

I was pleased with how the stages turned out today. They proved to be as challenging as I had hoped. Only one shooter shot a clean match today. Way to go, Don Albares! To the rest of you, thanks for playing. Quite a few of us will be representing South Mississippi and Louisiana in the upcoming Nationals, and our local clubs are making a concerted effort to toughen up the local matches in preparation for what we know will be hard stages at the national level. Today’s mix was fair, offered numerous options on most cases, and rewarded those who had a good plan and executed it with the fewest penalties.

Since everyone except one shooter had at least one penalty (Mike, No-Shoot or Procedure), the match came down to consistency. Our match winner today was  Read more…
