The monthly USPSA Pistol match scheduled for Sunday, January 12, 2020 has been cancelled due to the rain on Saturday. Ironically, the entire road at the range was fixed just this week, but now vulnerable to significant damage if we were to drive on it while wet tomorrow morning. Hopefully, the hunters will stay off it as well and let it dry in its newly, flattened state.

Are you interested in shooting the 2020 Single Stack Nationals in Talladega, AL? The match dates are April 30, May 1 OR May 2, 2020 (match is a one-day format). The Mississippi Section has been given 2 slots for this match and they will be awarded to shooters who are members of the Mississippi Section or out of state residents who support our state matches.

To request a slot, click the REGISTER button below. This will let you register on Practiscore to get a slot. Registering is free, but it does not guarantee you will get a slot. You also have to pay for the match, even with a slot code. And, even if you do not get a slot code, you will still be able to register for the actual match during open registration in 2020.

The request period will be open until 5 PM on January 27, 2020. Shortly after that, the codes will be awarded based on the Section bylaws. If you request and receive a slot, it must either be used by you or returned to the Section. It cannot be transferred to anyone else, even someone in our Section. Click the button here to get started. It is NOT first come, first served. Anyone registering will be equally considered for a slot.

‘Round about Friday, it wasn’t looking good for the match. With two solid days of rain, my phone was buzzing with shooters wanting to know if we were going to be able to shoot. I was skeptical about the road being usable, but it turned out to be as *good* as it has been for the past few months. I guess the severe ruts are acting as channels to drain away the water. It only took a 2WD vehicle to get in although a truck made it a bit easier. Anyway, we got to shoot.

The weather was great, after it finally warmed up. When I got to the range to put up the targets, it was a crisp 32 degrees. Thankfully, by 9 it was warm enough for short sleeves. The rest of the day was perfect with clear skies, mild temps and a slight breeze. Not too bad for early January.

We had a respectable 18 shooters with us today, and it made for decent size squads. There were enough folks to get things reset but not so big as to be slow. If you aren’t a Leonhardt, you have to shoot in the “Participation Trophy” division. It will come as no surprise that your match winner, regardless of division, was Read more…
