February 2019 Biloxi (DSSA) pistol match results

While the overnight weather certainly didn’t help, it turned out to be pretty much a non-factor. We expected (and got) quite a bit of rain over Saturday night into early Sunday morning, but you couldn’t tell that from the condition of the range. We have shot there in way worse conditions. It was damp-ish, but there was no standing water in the stage areas, and the mud factor was pretty low. I don’t think it affected the movement at all, at least for most people. Anyway, Sunday morning brought a darn nice day for a match. It was sunny all day and close to 70 by the time we left.

While online registration got as high as 59, in the end there were 43 shooters when the hammers dropped. It’s not unusual to lose so many due to the threat of weather, but if you used that as your excuse today, you missed a good one for no reason. As usual, the stages were challenging, with tough shots on partials and middle distance targets everywhere. Several stages offered so many plan options that it was hard to pick one and stick with it. Seeing your fellow shooters walk a completely different plan than yours can be disconcerting, especially if you are up next or on deck. But you just have to stick with YOUR plan at that point. Good stages are always marked by a preponderance of plans where no one way seems the best for everybody. Great job, Roger and Gerwin!

When the scores were finally tallied, it looked pretty much like normal, with maybe a few exceptions. Our overall and Open division winner today was Read more…

**UPDATE 1**

These are the number of slots the MS Section received for the 2019 Nationals

Open/PCC – 5
Limited/Carry Optics – 3
Production/L10 – 3
Single Stack/Revolver – 3

Are you interested in shooting the 2019 USPSA Nationals? Are you ready to compete with the best in the sport? If so, you have the chance to shoot one of the toughest matches you’ll ever see. The 2019 USPSA Nationals will be held St. George, Utah in September and Frostproof, Florida in November. There will actually be four separate matches of three days each, with each match covering two divisions. For more information about this match, click here.

If you are interested in shooting this match, you will need to request a slot. A slot is your guaranteed ticket to the match, as long as you send in your money! To get a slot, you will need to request one. The Mississippi Section will be awarded a certain number of slots on February 22, and we hope there are enough to go around. If not, the presidents of the Mississippi clubs will use your 2018 local match participation, along with several other factors in determining who will get the available slots. To request a slot, go to this link or click the big button below.  Registration for slots will close on March 22 at 5 PM. When you register does not count for anything. Slots should be awarded by March 28th or thereabouts. You can start using the slot codes to register for the actual Nationals match on March 29, 2019

If you are awarded a slot, you must register with USPSA by May 29, or your slot will expire. If you request and then receive a slot, but later decide you can’t make it, you should return the slot to us so it can be given to someone else.

What started out as a fairly dreary morning turned out to be a really nice day for a pistol match, even if we did have to wade in some mud on a few stages.  Turn out was good, with 41 folks coming out, and Justin came through again with five great stages that had multiple solutions and made every shooter have to think.  Thanks again to those who were able to get there early enough to help Cliff and I with final set up.  We can’t tell you enough how much your efforts are appreciated!

At the end of the day, there were some familiar names at the top of the scoreboard, but the top shooter let no doubt about the who the winner was. Read more…

Dawson Precision“Next month, we’ll be back to normal…” That’s how I ended last month’s writeup. Today was anything BUT normal. No, it wasn’t freaky February weather (which was quite pleasant today) or more super high-round-count stages (fun, heck yes! but not normal). Some important lessons were dished out today for all to enjoy. It started with the trips (plural) to Dairy Queen. Before we get into the scores, it is important to note who didn’t make it through the match. I don’t normally mention these somewhat unpleasant events, but today was noteworthy. We’ve all been there before, but it still is unexpected for certain people.  Read more…

February 2019 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

February is always an iffy month, weather-wise. Today, we lucked out and got a really pleasant day for 3-gun. By the end of the match it was in the low 70’s and the sun was out. And that made for some fun stages for the 16 shooters in the match.

The four stages looked straightforward, but proved more challenging than expected. We finally got to shoot some long-range rifle at the beginning of a stage, which meant there was no excuse accepted along the lines of being out of breath. This helped quite a few people with their hits on the long steel. On that stage, there were also paper pistol targets out to 50 yards.

It seemed like everyone enjoyed the stages and we had two brand-new to 3-gun shooters with us today. In fact, at 10 am, yesterday morning, we only had 10 people registered. By this morning, there were 16. Word must have gotten out about the fantastic stages…
