More props on the way

January 3, 2012 1 comment

Happy New Year, Shooters! Hopefully, Santa Claus brought you all the guns and supplies you hoped for. He was good to us in Poplarville. He brought us a bunch of new commercial-grade, steel target stands, several auto-resetting mini-poppers for the rifle matches and, best of all, everyone’s favorite, a Texas Star! This one is made by MGM Targets, and is called a “Whirley-Gig” by them, but a star is a star.

And speaking of new props, please let us know what else you would like to see. Leave a comment below if you want to suggest something for the club to build or acquire.

Sometime this spring, we will be having a work day at the range in Poplarville to clean up and rebuild the permanent structures, including the “house” on the west side of the drive, and the Gerald area on the east side. Our plan is to significantly enhance these facilities so we can provide the best stages you will ever shoot.

December 2011 MGCPS pistol match results

December 18, 2011 Leave a comment

The weather was fine and the turnout was decent. A total of 33 competitors showed up to compete in all six divisions. Four stages of fire were shot and the competition was fierce.

The Limited division and overall match winner was Steve Lasavia, edging out Charlie Black (Open winner) by just 3 match points. In Production, Michael McDonald topped the division, and he also finished fourth overall. In Revolver, Mike Payne was the top shooter, Tony Adams took Single Stack and in Limited 10, Kevin Walker took the honors.

The complete match results can be found here!

We ended up the year with a bang. We had a GREAT turnout today, considering the weather. In all, 28 shooters braved the overcast and breezy conditions to shoot another great 5 stage match. We had quite a few new shooters today and we really appreciate their participation in our match. Hopefully, they will come back next year for more great shooting.

Once again, the match ran smoothly, with no scoring miscues and no stage confusion. Thank you to the scorekeepers for paying attention and writing clearly.

Before getting to the results, I want to thank everyone who helped set up or tear down. We had lots to attend to and the help was really appreciated.

November 2011 SMPSA pistol match results

What a difference a month makes. Last month, we had the fiasco of the scoring screw-ups that caused no end of problems. This month, everything went great with the scores. All scores were recorded, and other than a few cases where steel wasn’t totaled into the A hits, everything was done right. Thanks to those that kept score correctly!

The weather was pretty good today, with a light overcast sky once and a while and very nice temperatures. We had 26 shooters show up to today to do battle with 5 really great stages. Well, I guess that would be 4 great stages and a surprisingly difficult classifier. There were four who zeroed the classifier and only two who shot it clean. Because of the design, it tended to clump the penalties, with a miss turning into a no-shoot as well in lots of cases. We will try to do better next time.

Updated 10/10/11 (Second time)

Ok, shooters. We have made an investigation and have decided this. Max watched Spanky’s video and is sure the squad engaged all 16 targets. So, we will remove the 2 Mike/1 Procedure from each squad 2 shooter and replace them with one A and one C. It isn’t perfect but this match is just for fun. Those new scores are here. This allows us to use all 5 stages. If you feel this isn’t fair, then be all means, use the scores that throw out stage 3, found here.

A correction has been made to the Limited and Overall scores. Hale Switzer as originally scored as Major, but was actually shooting Minor. The results here and on the USPSA site are now corrected.

The next USPSA day match is January 6, 2011. The next three gun match is January 2, 2011. The schedule for 2011 will be posted soon.

The handgun results are here.

I just can’t believe more people didn’t show up today! The weather was fantastic. The rain had passed through last night and the skies were clear. The temperature was about 68 and the wind was non-existent. What a great day!

I am sorry for the delay in getting the scores posted. Sometimes work has to take a priority over shooting and this week was it. Anyway, enjoy!

Rifle Match

The rifle scores are now posted!

Let me start out by saying the rifle match was not run very smoothly. First, the mover cable was shot in the middle of the match and was rendered inoperable. Then the score sheets were the WORST in the history of competitive shooting. Every mistake that could be made was made. So, take these scores with a grain of salt. On stage 2, the mover, some people shot it with the mover actually moving, and some shot it with it standing still. Big difference, and I have no record of who shot it how. So, the scores are what they are.
