BPSA June 2017 3GN Pistol Results!
We had 41 shooters turn out today for the BPSA June 2017 3GN Pistol match. While it rained all week leading up to the match, it managed to stay dry all day for us today and we had just about perfect weather for the match.
Stage 1, Bring It, was a 12 round speed course with an unloaded start. Roger Henn took top honors here with a blazing 5.12 run, with John Nguyen not far behind at 5.31 seconds.
Stage 2, Bring it Strong hand, was a rehash of Stage 1, this time strong hand only. It didn’t change much in the results as Roger Henn was still tops with a 6.10 run, and Bill Jackson was 2nd at 6.91.
Stage 3, Switchback, featured a drop turner and was won again by Roger Henn with a 13.70 second run.
Stage 4, Yonder, was a medium size course that featured some backward movement. Roger Henn was again far out in front of the field with a 10 second run.
Stage 5, Peter Piper, was the big stage of the day, featuring 8 steel and a swinger. Steven Mosher took the stage here with a 25 second run.
When it was all said and done, Roger Henn won Unlimited, Trey Nicholson won PCC, Steven Mosher won Practical and John Nguyen won Factory.

2017 Mississippi PCC, Carry Optics, and Limited 10 Championship Results!
The 2017 Mississippi PCC, Carry Optics, and Limited 10 Championship is in the books, and although we started the morning out with a little rain, and endured a shower around lunch, it ended up being a pretty nice day, and we had a blast shooting.
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who came out and shot with us, helped past and reset, tear down, and most of all those who helped RO and setup the night before. Without these guys help, these matches just don’t happen, and I like to thank them first. Lee Frasier, Ken Hablitzel, Harry Williams, Mike Ramos, Nick Saucier, Gary Kerr, Mike Strong, Trey Nicholson, Aaron Fitgerald, Bryant Willett, Robbie Foil, Jonathan O’Brien, Gerwin Henn, Roger Henn, Brian Dolly, Stephen LaSavia, Rafy RIjos, Steve Tannetta, David Pape, Bill Mahley, Ruth Mahley, John Nguyen, George Miller, Calvin Lindsay, Kyle Watkins, Ethan Boudreaux, Jeff Blitch, and Dani Blitch.
That team of folks makes the match what it is, so when you see them around give them a big high five. It’s also worth noting that a lot of the same names are at the top of many of the leaderboards today. It says a lot when your top guys are also putting in work. Other places I’ve been the local heat expects the superstar treatment and I’m pretty darn proud that none of our guys are too proud to pick up a hammer and pitch in.
Now on to the action:
Stage 1, Swinging Steel, was a 12 round short course that had you shooting 8 small pieces of steel at a pretty healthy distance, then a swinger and a tight partial with a mandatory reload mixed in. This one was a lot tougher than most folks expected, and it tanked a lot of folks matches today. Max Michel Sr. didn’t have that problem in Carry Optics with the stage win in 12.63 seconds, Gerwin Henn leveraged his solid fundamentals here for the L10 stage win with a smoking 10.79 run, and Joshua Mazzola blazed through this one with ease in PCC with a time on 8.73.
Stage 2, Swinging Bill, was a 12 round Virginia count stage that required 6 shots on the swinger, and 6 on a partial. John Nguyen took the stage win in CO here with a 10.87 run, Gerwin Henn took the stage in L10 with a 8.41 run, and Fernando Almeida took PCC with a 7.65.
Stage 3, Four by Four, was a 12 round short course that featured four popper on the left side, and four paper on the right. The only real decision to be made here was which way to go first, and then rely on execution. AJ McCartney picked the right choice and made it happen in CO with a smoking run of 9.70, Rafy Rijos took L10 with a 11.50, and Joshua Mazzola took the stage in PCC with a 10.21.
Stage 4, No Step on Snek, was a 24 round long course that featured four big colt poppers, and two deceptively small and distanced lollipops. Roger Henn was the man here in CO, with a 13.72 run, his old man Gerwin took it in L10 with a 13.37 run, and Joshua Mazzola ran the table in PCC with a 12.61 run.
Stage 5, Double Time, was a 14 round medium course that had only two steel, and a few tight partials. Roger Henn again won the stage in CO with a 9.54 run, Steven Mosher won L10 with a 11.80 run, and Bryant Willett won PCC with a smoking 8.61.
Stage 6, Triple Time, was a rehash of the previous stage, only this time it was three rounds per target, and ended up a 20 round long course. John Nguyen took it down in CO with a 11.39 run, Steven Taylor won L10 with a run of 13.48, and Joshua Mazzola won PCC with a 11.05.
Stage 7, My Way, was a pretty straightforward 24 round long course that featured two poppers. John Nguyen took the stage in CO, Gerwin Henn took L10, and new PCC shooter Woody Landry set the tone on this one in PCC.
Stage 8, The Highway, was the same stsage, with the added twist of an unloaded start and all mags staged on barrel. This didn’t change much for the high cap guys, but it altered the L10 guys plans significantly, as well as sending a couple people home anytime you do gun and mag handling off barrels. John Nguyen repeated his stage win in CO, Rowdy Bricco took the stage in L10, and Joshua Mazzola took the stage in PCC.
Stage 9, Wide Open, was the largest course at 32 rounds, and easily covered the most ground. This one really rewarded those guys who could cover ground quick, as evidenced by your fast-footed MD Steven Mosher taking the stage win in L10, with Roger Henn taking CO and Joshua Mazzola taking PCC.
Stage 10, Split Second, was an 8 round speed shoot that featured an optional drop turner, two poppers and tight partial. Roger Henn took the stage in CO at 4.93, outpacing the field by nearly 25%, Jonathan Jones blazed the stage in L10 with a time of 3.85 for the stage win, and Christopher DiMenna smoked a 4.51 run in PCC.
When all the results were tallied, your final leaderboard looked like this:

BPSA May 2017 3GN Multigun Results!
We had 35 shooters come out for our the May 3GN monthly multigun match. This was our first 3GN affiliated multigun match, but the learning curve was easy. We also offered some custom pistol only and PCC only divisions for anyone that wanted to try them. Rain was in the forecast, but it never came, and it ended up being a nice day.
Now onto the action:
Stage 1, Steel Gallery, was a shotgun only speed course that required a slug shot on a drop Turner, and featured 12 poppers. No surprise here, but unlimited shotgun guys lead the way here with the higher capacity, with Jeret Howard setting the pace at 11.83, with Clayton Daigle right behind him at 12.18. For the Practical guys who required a reload, Daniel Luxich set the pace with 12.55. For the pistol/PCC only crowd, not having to run the shotgun made a big difference as Roger Henn was out frinybhere with a 6.73.
Stage 2, A New Twist, is a 3GN multigun classifier that required engaging three paper with rifle and then six poppers with pistol. Daniel Luxich set the bar high here in Practical and overall with a 7.56 run. In Pistol only, not gun transition was required and that propelled Roger Henn to a 5.64 run.
Stage 3, Your Way, was a rifle or pistol choice on a 11 target field course. Jeret Howard lead the pack here again with a 11.63 run, with Roger Henn right behind him in Pistol Only with a 11.63.
Stage 4. Tiger Balm, was a big field course that required all three guns. This was the make or breaker for most people’s matches today. Dustin Stevens laid down a smoking run of 33.04 to lead the way in Practical and Overall, with Jeret Howard right behind him in unlimited with a 33.83. In the Pistol Only category, Roger Henn lead the way with a 24.44.
With the final results came in, here is how it stacked up:
Jeret Howard made to switch from USPSA Limited to 3GN Unlimited and it paid off, with both the unlimited and overall match win with a total time of 68.07.
Ivan Deroche was next Overall, and first in Practical with a 78.64. Daniel Luxich was right behind him at 79.24.
Calvin Lindsay took the win in Heavy Sport, and Jim Francis won the Unlimited PCC division.
In the Pistol Only category, Roger Henn took the win over his dad Gerwin. Ken Hablitzel was third.
In PCC Only, Bryant Willett edged out Gerald Benton, with Roger Follette and Ronald Hinton 3rd & 4th.
Geneva Williams won Rimfire Rifle Only.

2017 Mississippi Single Stack and Revolver Championship Results!
The 2017 Mississippi Single Stack and Revolver Championship is in the books, and it was a great one.
First and foremost I want to thank the folks that made it possible.
Setup crew George Miller, Lee Frasier, Steve Tannetta, Bill Jackson, Calvin Lindsay, Harrell Balius, and Dwaine Balius. Without these guys this match doesn’t happen.
RO and match staff, Mike Morgan, Brian Dolly, Mike Ramos, Lee Frasier, Gary Kerr, Harrell Balius, Dwaine Balius, Bryant Willett, Ed Chancery, Thomas Heard, Lloyd Marine, Robbie Foil, Gerwin Henn, Roger Henn, David Pape, Chris Davis, Gerald Forbes, and Bill Jackson.
These events are certainly not one man shows, and are the product of an incredible amount of teamwork from the guys above, and other guys who step up at other matches.
Now on the action.
We had 77 shooters registered, but with pending nasty weather in the forecast, we only had 56 actually turn out.
They were rewarded with much better weather than expected, and thanks to efficient squads and implementing the foul weather protocol, we were able to wrap up by 2pm and got done before the bottom fell out and was lucky enough to miss the rain.
It must be all that good karma we’ve built up the past year. 🙂
Stage 1, Quick Six, was a 6 round speed course featuring all poppers shot from behind a barricade. Christopher DiMenna was the man her, with a 5.45 second run in Single Stack, and Mike Settle lead all the shell guns with a 5.83 second run.
Stage 2, Survival, was a 12 shot short course with a mandatory reload. Gerwin Henn lead the pack here with his command of gun handling fundamentals and 55 plus years of wisdom, and a time of 7.87. Dale Craig took the stage win in Revolver with an 11.78 run.
Stage 3, A Little Left, wasa 14 round medium course with a mix of paper and steel. Gerwin Henn lead the bottom feeders with a 9.86 run, with the hot and cold Nick Saucier right on his tail with a 10.05 run. Robert Settle lead the pack in Revolver with a 12.85.
Stage 4, A Little Right, was a 16 round medium course that featured four full size colt poppers. Gerwin Henn established a then here with another stage win at 9.47 seconds. Same with Robert Settle and his 12.03 second run in Revolver.
Stage 5, With Mushrooms, was a 20 round long course that featured forward movement and a mix of paper and four small poppers. Gerwin Henn again showed that Limited skills transfer well to single stack with another stage win, and Mike Settle picked up where his dad left off the previous two stages taking one for himself with a 20 second run.
Stage 6, No Sausage, was a 20 round long course that featured backwards movement, and Roger Henn made it a family tradition with his quick feet taking him to a stage win at 13.90 seconds, while in revolver Robert Settle showed that father knows best with a run of 16.48.
Stage 7, Back Pedal, was a 12 round short course featuring backward movement and two very tight shots on mini poppers. This stage was last shot at the 2016 European Open, and on this day, Christopher DiMenna took the stage with a 5.0847 hit factor, just swirling ahead of Steven Tannetta at 99.79% with a 5.0738 hit factor. Mike Settle took the stage in Revolver with a 4.3732 hit factor. ‘Merica.
Stage 8, Gas Pedal, was a 17 round medium course that require three hits per target. Gerwin Henn laid down a 10.47 second run for the stage win in Single Stack, and Elliot Aysen outpaced the Revolver field with a 13.84 second run.
Stage 9, Surrounded, was the biggest course of the day, a 26 round long course. William Moore put his name in lights on this one with a 19.72 second run, and Robert Settle took the stage in Revolver with a 23.68 second run.
Stage 10, Stomp City, was a 6 round speed course featuring two poppers and a swinger. Roger Henn was quick in the trigger here with a smoking 3.75 second run. In the wheelgun division, Elliot Aysen smoked the stage with a 4.74 run.

2017 Mississippi Single Stack and Revolver State Championship Preview!
MATCH PREVIEW:
The 2017 Mississippi Single Stack and Revolver State Championship takes place this Sunday, April 30th, at Coast rifle and Pistol Club near Biloxi, MS. This is a USPSA sanctioned, level 2 State/Section championship event. Over 75 of the best wheel gunners and 1911 aficionados from around the state and region will come out Sunday to test their skills on ten challenging stages that will be sure to test a variety of skills. The match is full, but spectators are more than welcome. The action will run all day.
Single Stack will feature an impressive turnout of 56 shooters. The competition here appears to be wide open, as none of the competitors are classed higher than A, with 26 of them being unclassified in single stack. The early favorite for State Champion appears to be Russ Smith, a frequent SS shooter and consistent performer at big matches,, but he could get pushed real hard from a set of unclassified guys crossing over into this division just for the match, namely Gerwin and Roger Henn, the father son duo more frequently found stalking the hi-cap divisions of Open and Limited. In addition to those early favorites, don’t count out darkhorse Jamie Humphrey or Nick Saucier. If either of them put together a solid match they are within striking distance. The picture for the overall division title gets just a bit murkier, with those guys mentioned above, as well as out of staters Chris DiMenna and William Moore thrown into the mix.
For revolver division, even with 21 revolver shooters signed up, the picture looks a little clearer at the top. The first and one of only like two or three guys to achieve GM in every division in the sport chose the wheel gun for this one, and Johnny Brister is the early favorite unless he takes a wrong turn on the way down and ends up in Albuquerque. Gerald Benton is the next man up and could be a darkhorse if Brister stumbles. For the overall division title, the competition gets a lot thicker as heavy hitters in revolver from the state next door make their way over. Elliot Aysen is the favorite to take the overall match, with Bill and Jonathan Durocher, and Gary Thibodaux are all set to square off for the coveted podium finish.
It promises to be a fun and exciting match, and we look forward to seeing how it all shakes out!
See you at the match!
BPSA April 2017 USPSA Results!
We had 68 shooters turn out today for the BPSA April 2017 USPSA match. We had quite a few new shooters come try the sport for the first time, as well as some old hands getting in one last tune-up before next week’s Single Stack and Revolver State Championship.
We had a little rain shower before the match got underway, but after that it was smooth sailing, although the high winds caused a few reshoots knocking over some of the poppers.
Now on the the action:
Stage 1, Can You Count, was a 20 round classifier that tested your ability to shoot really fast, really close, and count to five. Steven Mosher was a loose cannon on this stage with a 11.99 hit factor in production, followed closely by David Pape in Single Stack with a 11.76 hit factor.
Stage 2, Popup Blocker, was a 21 round stage that did not feature any popup targets, but required some backward movement from the start. Ethan Boudreaux took top honors here with his Carry Optics rig with a 15.22 second run, and Stanley Wade and Paul Jaccod were right behind him in Limited with 16 second runs.
This was also known as “the only stage that matters” for both Ruth Mahley and CJ Williams, as they both beat their husbands on this stage. They say it’s always good to try hard and leave it all out on the field, and for Bill and Adam they left a little piece of their manhood out on Stage 2 today.
Stage 3, In Sync, was an “N” shaped array of tight targets with a mix of steel. Bill Mahley sought redemption here and found it, lapping the rest of the field by more than 20% with a 10+ hit factor. Stanley Wade was the next competitor in sight, with a 8.11 HF in Limited.
Stage 4, Right Turn Clyde, was a 20 round medium course with a mix of partial targets and steel. Bill Mahley continued down the war path with another 20%+ stage win here with an 8.8 hit factor, with Michael McDonald (the shooter, not the singer) next in line with a 7.0 hit factor.
Stage 5, The Little Things, featured a swinger and our two newest target additions, two little 6″ square plates that were sure to frustrate many. Bill Mahley again took this stage, albeit not by as big of a margin. His 5.0 hit factor was just 8% ahead of Paul Jaccod’s 4.7 in Limited.
When the final results were calculated, the division winners were as follows:
Ethan Boudreaux took first out of five in Carry Optics by nearly 18% over second place Matthew Dozier.
Stanley Wade shot Limited Minor and took home the 1st place win out of 16 in the division and 3rd overall out of 68th. Paul Jaccod was 2nd just 4% behind.
Bill Mahley took 1st overall and 1st in open by nearly 19%. Lee Frasier took 2nd here.
Gary Kerr won 1st in PCC by 16% out of a record high seven that showed up to shoot long guns. Calvin Lindsay debuted his new toy and took 2nd place.
Steven Mosher took Production, with Ken Cornwall right behind him by 3% for second place out of twenty Production shooters.
Gerald Benton took 1st in Revolver out of one. I guess it’s safe to assume no one else felt they needed to practice Revolver for next week. We’ll see how that works out for them.
Single Stack saw a surge in turnout as folks prepped for next week. Out of 13 shooters, David Pape came out on top with Steve Tannetta right behind him. Both these guys are normally limited shooters, but I guess you could say they give zero stacks whether they are shooting single or double stack, it’s all the same.
