June 2014 Poplarville pistol match results

June 8, 2014 Leave a comment

Dawson PrecisionIt. Was. Hot.

That pretty much sums it up for today’s match. Thanks to everyone for coming out. See you next month…

Oh, wait, we need some scores. See, it was hot, did I mention that? Given the heat (95° when I left the range), we had a great turnout. A total of 23 shooters said they’d rather shoot than be cool, and we had five great (but quick) stages today and outstanding help setting up and tearing everything down. We were done shooting around 11:40 AM and had everything torn down within 30 minutes. So, all in all, it was about as good as it can get for June.

For the results, we only need to look as who’s hot (shooting-wise) and you’ll find your winners. Our overall winner was Read more…

May 2014 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionThe annual Mother’s Day match is always at crap shoot. Sometimes, we have a great turnout, because it is the last match before the MS Classic, and sometimes we just have a few, as commitments to the holiday take the toll. Today, it was kind of in the middle with 15 shooters. The weather was crummy Friday night and the road was slippery in the morning. A couple of folks needed the 4-wheel drive taxi, but most were able to make it just fine. The range itself always drains well, so the shooting bays were fine.

May 2014 Poplarville pistol match reminder **UPDATE**

Dawson PrecisionThe road is pretty bad. If you don’t have a truck and want a ride, call Bill at 228-223-6297. We will send a truck for you.

We are still shooting on Sunday. The road in may be a bit slippery, so if you have four wheel drive, use it. If cars can’t make it up the hill, we will ferry people up with the trucks.

May 2014 Poplarville 3-Gun match results **Updated – complete scores**

The scoring computer issue has been resolved. The results didn’t change but we now have stage totals as well as the match totals. We apologize for the delay in getting the detailed scores done.

Our final match of the summer was well attended, with 15 shooters in all. The four stages presented a variety of challenges with a twist. For the first time in quite a while, we had some flying targets in the form of clay pigeons tossed in response to a popper being shot. They weren’t hard to hit, unless you couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. A few of us gagged on them, sadly, but it was great fun for those who did smash them. It is probably the best type of target to give feedback to the shooter.

The match winner was not a stranger to the podium with Read more…

Sorry for the delay in posting the scores. There seems to be a problem with the scores when entered into EZWinScore, and as such, I have temporarily entered the scores into a simple table. When I can resolve the issue, the total scores will be posted, but for now, this is what we have.

May 2014 Poplarville 3-gun match reminder

Dawson Precision

This is our last match until September. During the Summer, it is just too hot to shoot a decent 3-gun match, so this Sunday will be the last chance for 3-gun for several months.

This also marks the renewal time for club membership. As a club member, you get access to the range and a $5 discount on all matches, both USPSA pistol and 3-gun. Membership is only $35 per year and goes to keep the club running.

April 2014 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionSummer may have arrived early as our match today was a bit on the warm side. After all the cold weather this winter, no one was complaining, though. It was the membership renewal match today and we had 10 people renew and several others “promise” to renew next month. We greatly appreciate the support from our members and shooters.

Although Area 6 was finishing up in Georgia today and drained away several of our regulars, we still had 20 people show up to compete. As usual, we had five great stages and managed to finished shortly after Noon. So things rolled right along.

Each of the six divisions had at least one competitor, so the results are lengthy. Our match winner was…

7:00 AM UPDATE – The rain is coming/here. The road is impassible for anything less than 4WD, so we are CANCELLING the match.

5:15 AM UPDATE – It appears we may have dodged much of the rain last night, so we are headed to the range shortly to check on things. We will have an update at 7 AM with the final decision.

Once again, the weather is threatening the 3-gun match. Right now, the chances of rain at match time are around 90%, depending on which weather site you look at. But it was supposed to rain all day today, too, and it hasn’t, yet. So, we are still on, BUT check here before coming out in the morning. If it starts raining tonight, then the road will probably be impassible. We will try to make the call by 7 AM so those that have a long drive can get on the road.

March 2014 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionIt seemed like everyone remembered to set their clock forward, because we got started on time, and there were no late arrivals. We finished by Noon even though we had 5 stages and 21 shooters. Three balanced squads managed to keep moving and got it done. We had great help from all the shooters for both setup and tear down. Your match staff really appreciates that.

So far this year, we have averaged 21 shooters for the first three months. This is ahead of last year’s pace by three, on average, so things are starting out good. As a reminder, club memberships renew in April so next month will be the time when we look to you to rejoin (or join) to support our activities. Your dues help defray the cost of the lease and insurance and also go towards new props.

We had a good match today, although the top spot wasn’t really in doubt. Our match winner was…
