October 2014 Poplarville pistol match results

October 12, 2014 Leave a comment

Dawson PrecisionThe weather was once again a factor, but somewhat unexpectedly this month. While the past weekend was perfect weather at the 3-gun match, this weekend was Summer-like hot. But it didn’t deter the 18 shooters from having a good time today. Once again, the stages pushed everyone to the limit and sometimes beyond. The mix ranges from 8 shots to 36 shots. There was also lots of movement. Challenging, but fair was the best was to describe today’s stages.

After the scores had been tallied, the results spoke for themselves. Our overall winner and Open division winner was Read more…

October Poplarville 3-gun match results

Mother Nature was kind to us today with the weather being almost completely opposite of the stifling heat from last month. The temperature was around 68 at match time and the entire day was pleasant with abundant sunshine and light breezes. Elven shooters showed up today and were treated to four great stages. We ventured back into the gulley for the first time in quite a while, and played a bit of hide and seek with the paper targets in the east side bay. The ravines made great cover for the brown targets who blended in quite well with their surroundings. Two flying clay pigeon targets rounded things out for a great match.

The match went down to the wire and we crowned a new first-time champ today. In the top spot was Read more…

Someone forgot to tell the weatherman that this is September and it is supposed to be cooling down by now. It turned out to be quite warm, at least while standing in the Sun. The shade was nice if you could find it, but it wasn’t available on every stage. With Tom away today, it was left to the second string to put on the match, but things worked out just fine. The stages were challenging, but not overly difficult. We had 39 shooters, which is decent by any measure.

Dawson PrecisionAfter the rainout in Biloxi Friday afternoon, we expected a better turnout than we got today, but those that did show up were a bit surprised at the simple appearing, yet surprisingly challenging stages that confronted them. We had sixteen shooters overall, and one brand new shooter to the sport and to our club. He did great, even with the surprisingly tough stages. Hopefully, he will come back next month and let his wife shoot next time!

When we showed up this morning, it was 68° and no rain since mid-week. Hopes ran high with the setup crew that it would stay about 72° all day, but that was quickly passed by. Although it was warm, it was not miserable and the shooters managed to get done by Noon. That’s always a good thing.

Today may have been the hottest match we have ever had. It’s a good thing we take off for the Summer. It was beyond unpleasant, at least from a temperature/humidity standpoint. The shooting was great, the stages were great, but it was all about the heat.

We had 10 shooters today, which ties our lowest turnout of the year. The stages were challenging, but I guess there were some who thought it might just be too hot. We have requested better weather for next month…

The results are fairly typical for a 3-gun match with Read more…

September 2014 Poplarville 3-gun match reminder

September 2, 2014 2 comments

The 2014-15 3-gun shooting season kicks off this coming Sunday (September 7) in Poplarville. It seems like an eternity since the last match but it’s really only been 4 months. If you are looking for another stop on the 3-Gun Nation tour, however, this isn’t it. There are no pro shooters, no black/red circle targets, and no cameras (except the occasional GoPro), but there are challenging stages requiring physical exertion, long-distance and close-range shooting, and general good times for those that like to enjoy their Second Amendment rights.

If you haven’t shot 3-gun before, then please check us out. Our rules and important information can be found here. Spectators are welcome, but bring eye and ear protection. Membership is not required to shoot or to watch. If you have shot with us before, then you know the drill. Bring ammo, food and water, sunscreen and a good attitude.

The rained threatened but never materialized. Forty-one shooters signed up today and we got the match in, even though rain and lightning surrounded the area all morning. Thank you to Bob for some great stages, once again. Quick, challenging but not overly difficult. The results were a bit unexpected, but then again, maybe not.

August 9, 2014 2 comments

Dawson PrecisionThe August match has been cancelled due to the rain at the range on Saturday evening. The road became impassible very quickly and will not be usable for days. We will resume shooting 3-gun in Poplarville on September 7. The next pistol match will be September 14.
