September 2014 Poplarville 3-gun match reminder

The 2014-15 3-gun shooting season kicks off this coming Sunday (September 7) in Poplarville. It seems like an eternity since the last match but it’s really only been 4 months. If you are looking for another stop on the 3-Gun Nation tour, however, this isn’t it. There are no pro shooters, no black/red circle targets, and no cameras (except the occasional GoPro), but there are challenging stages requiring physical exertion, long-distance and close-range shooting, and general good times for those that like to enjoy their Second Amendment rights.

If you haven’t shot 3-gun before, then please check us out. Our rules and important information can be found here. Spectators are welcome, but bring eye and ear protection. Membership is not required to shoot or to watch. If you have shot with us before, then you know the drill. Bring ammo, food and water, sunscreen and a good attitude.

Can it be shot with just rifle and pistol since I don’t own a shotgun?

If you bring shotgun ammo, someone will have a shotgun you can use or borrow. Just bring 100 birdshot (#7.5 or #8). If you need slugs, someone will have them. It will be extremely beneficial to have some method of holding shotgun ammo on your belt of body. You may want to consider one of the inexpensive belts with individual loops for shells.

Attempting to shoot without a shotgun would be a waste of everyone’s time. There will be at least 3 stages out of 4 that require a shotgun. If you simply didn’t shoot those shots, you would almost certainly max. time those stages with the penalties.
