July 2014 Pearlington pistol match results

What a day it was today! This was our biggest turnout ever, and yet, everything worked perfectly. With rain cancelling EAPS, we picked up a bunch of Cajun shooters who normally don’t shoot our match. We had 61 shooters compete over 5 stages, and everyone beat the rain.
Some of the results don’t look anything like normal, which just goes to show if you shoot at the top of your game, you can win the big one. We had two big upsets for a pair of shooters who have labored in the shadow of their (tor)mentors. Until today. Our overall match winner was Read more…

The weather looks a bit iffy for tomorrow, but we are still on, as of 8 PM on Saturday. We set up this afternoon and the range was fine. However, the forecast is a 60% chance of rain for tomorrow. Please check here for any update before coming out, just in case it rains tonight. If there is no notice of cancellation, we will be shooting.
We are expecting a larger than usual crowd because EAPS had to cancel. If you are coming, please try to show up by 8:30 AM or earlier.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but once again, it was hot! We expect this kind of weather in the Summer, but that doesn’t mean we enjoy it. If we could only have shot last weekend. Oh, well.
We had a decent turnout for the hot weather. A total of 18 shooters made it today for the usual fun, but challenging stages. We tried to keep it short because of the heat, and we managed to finish the last shooter by Noon, so it wasn’t too bad. Even the road was decent today, despite the rain late in the week.
But enough of the fluff. Let’s hear the results! Our overall winner was Read more…

Father’s Day. That one day of the year when we are supposed to get to do what we want. For a few of us, it was shooting. Twenty-five guys came to play and with the setup gods smiling, we were finished shooting by 11:40 AM and packed up by Noon. That was good, because it got a little warm today. Because of the heat, we shot only four stages, but three were 32 rounders with quick action and just a tad of challenge. Well, make that more than a tad of challenge. Close targets and lurking no-shoots tempted fate once too often.
There were no surprises on the leader board today. The overall winner and Open division winner was… Read more…
June 2014 Poplarville pistol match results
That pretty much sums it up for today’s match. Thanks to everyone for coming out. See you next month…
Oh, wait, we need some scores. See, it was hot, did I mention that? Given the heat (95° when I left the range), we had a great turnout. A total of 23 shooters said they’d rather shoot than be cool, and we had five great (but quick) stages today and outstanding help setting up and tearing everything down. We were done shooting around 11:40 AM and had everything torn down within 30 minutes. So, all in all, it was about as good as it can get for June.
For the results, we only need to look as who’s hot (shooting-wise) and you’ll find your winners. Our overall winner was Read more…

Congratulations to all the winners!
May 2014 Poplarville pistol match results
The annual Mother’s Day match is always at crap shoot. Sometimes, we have a great turnout, because it is the last match before the MS Classic, and sometimes we just have a few, as commitments to the holiday take the toll. Today, it was kind of in the middle with 15 shooters. The weather was crummy Friday night and the road was slippery in the morning. A couple of folks needed the 4-wheel drive taxi, but most were able to make it just fine. The range itself always drains well, so the shooting bays were fine.

May 2014 Poplarville pistol match reminder **UPDATE**
The road is pretty bad. If you don’t have a truck and want a ride, call Bill at 228-223-6297. We will send a truck for you.
We are still shooting on Sunday. The road in may be a bit slippery, so if you have four wheel drive, use it. If cars can’t make it up the hill, we will ferry people up with the trucks.
May 2014 Poplarville 3-Gun match results **Updated – complete scores**
The scoring computer issue has been resolved. The results didn’t change but we now have stage totals as well as the match totals. We apologize for the delay in getting the detailed scores done.
Our final match of the summer was well attended, with 15 shooters in all. The four stages presented a variety of challenges with a twist. For the first time in quite a while, we had some flying targets in the form of clay pigeons tossed in response to a popper being shot. They weren’t hard to hit, unless you couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. A few of us gagged on them, sadly, but it was great fun for those who did smash them. It is probably the best type of target to give feedback to the shooter.
The match winner was not a stranger to the podium with Read more…

For an off-schedule match, this one turned out great. Because the Mississippi Classic falls on the same weekend as the Pearlington match, we reschedule the May match for the first weekend of the month. This, along with the stellar weather contributed to a great turnout. A bunch of shooters from the Jackson area came down to get one more practice match in before the big match in two weeks, and the locals turned out in droves as well. In all, 52 shooters participated in the competition.
The top spot was hard fought all day long, but in the end it was Read more…
