December 2012 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

December 2, 2012 1 comment

The last match of the year was shot on one of the nicest shooting days we have had in a while. The sky was clear and the temperature was pleasant. A total of 12 shooters showed up today to test their skills on 4 stages of rifle, pistol and shotgun. There was no long range rifle shooting today, but it was more than made up for with the huge shotgun stage in the gully. In the end, the results weren’t much of a surprise, though. Read more…

The November match was a great success. First and foremost, a huge thanks goes to Gerald for grading the road in and the area to the west of the parking area. Both were in bad shape and needed attention. This should last for a while unless we get another monsoon. The only weather issues we had today were the stiff winds that caused some targets to blow over on occasion. Otherwise, the temperature was great and we saw no rain.

The five stages represented run and gun (literally), fast draws and fast mag changes, and everything in between. The stages were challenging and thought-provoking. For the day, we had 16 shooters representing 5 of the 6 divisions in USPSA. Only Open was not represented. It was a good mix, although Production represented half the entire match. Read more…

We couldn’t dodge the rain forever today and it came right about the time each squad finished their first stage. It wasn’t a downpour, but enough to chase everyone into their vehicles to sit it out. Of the sixteen shooters who began the match, 7 bailed out. Those of us that remained decided to wait it out and were rewarded with a decent, but somewhat soggy match. Read more…

The weather is still a bit confused, because it was actually pretty hot today, and it’s already mid-October. It should be cool and dry. But, it certainly was bearable and the 16 shooters that showed up shot another round of challenging stages. There were five challenges today and some rose to the occasion, and some… well… you know.

There were some familiar faces at the top and a few new ones.

October 2012 Poplarville 3-gun match results *Updated*

8:25 PM – The scores have been updated. Two scores were reversed so the final scores and stage 3 scores have changed.

What a weird day it was for weather. The morning started out cool and windy with an overcast sky. By the second stage, the cover burned off and the breeze died down and it was gorgeous.  In another stage or two, the overcast sky and chilly breeze ware back. It was nice when the sun was out, but just a little too windy when it wasn’t. It didn’t seem to matter to the ten shooters who came out to compete today. We shot four great stages, with lots of close up and some far away shots. In the end, the stage that mattered the most was the long-range one with only a few shots but potentially lots of time. If you didn’t know where your rifle shot at distance, it was painful. If you had a 6X scope and a dialed-in adjustment, then you rocked. More penalty seconds were racked up here than almost all the other stages combined. Read more…
