BPSA December 2016 3-gun Results!

December 17, 2016 Leave a comment

We had great weather and a great turnout for this month’s 3-gun match with 24 shooters. We had several new shooters and a few seasoned ones that are new to the range.

Stage 1 was on the rifle range and used all three guns, and got your heart rate up a little before having to engage the rifle steel from a barricade. Several shooters chose to engage left handed from the barricade while many others chose to contort their bodies into a position they could still shoot strong side. Kevin Leonhardt took the stage win with 42 seconds, Wade Wilson was right behind him at 43 seconds, Ivan Deroche set the pace for the limited shooters at 47 seconds.

Stage 2 was a short, technical stand and deliver that had shooters choosing their two guns and forced some mandatory reloads. A surprising number of folks chose the rifle for paper, thinking they could reload it faster than pistol, and it just didn’t seem to work out for them. Hank Coates took the stage win with a 12 second run, Kevin Leonhardt was right behind him at 14 seconds followed by Steve White with 15 seconds.

Stage 3 was another stand and deliver with an added twist of having the drop Turner and mandatory pistol reload between arrays. Jeret Howard took the stage win here at 16 seconds with Steve Mosher right behind at 17 seconds.

Stage 4 was a large field course that combined shotgun and rifle, and really separated the men from the boys as it required shotgun reloads. Hank Coates took the stage win with a 29 second run, Steve White and Joe Jones were next behind him at 33 k 34 seconds.

The overall match, tactical division winner and new sheriff in town was Hank Coates. Hank came over from Baton Rouge and brought the heat. It was his first visit to our range and we hope to see him frequently.

Limited division was again won by Jeret Howard, his third in a row. Once may be luck, twice may be coincidence, but three times is a bonafide streak. Especially considering he had to fight off a challenge from Ivan.

Open winner was Steve White, with Clayton Daigle right on his heels.

BPSA November 2016 USPSA Match Results!

November 27, 2016 1 comment

We had a great turnout today for the BPSA November USPSA match, with 57 shooters coming out. Several of those were first time shooters, which is always great to see.

The morning started out chilly, and the competition was tight across several divisions.

Stage 1 was the classifier, Front Sight. Steve Tannetta blew this one out of the water shooting Limited, with a 10.48 hit factor and a time of 4.96 seconds. Right behind him was Robert Jones, also in Limited, just a mere 0.02 seconds off the pace.

Stage 2 was a 24 round long course with 6 pieces of steel and all open targets. It was one of the faster paced stages of the day. Bill Mahley took this down in PCC with a 14 second run, and Steven Taylor set the pace for pistols with a 16 second run with his production gun.

Stage 3 was a 12 round short course that had 4 pieces of steel and a swinger at close to 20 yards away. Bill Mahley took this stage again with PCC with a smoking 8 second run, and Steven Mosher set the standard for pistols with an 11 second run.

Stage 4 was a 14 round medium course that was one of the more technical stages of the day. It featured two pieces of steel, a drop turner with a disappearing target and several tight shots covered with no shoots. Bill Mahley took the stage with PCC with an 11 second run, followed closely by Jonathan Jones, Michael Morgan, and Robert Jones each shooting Limited.

Stage 5 was a 35 round long course, easily the biggest and most target rich stage of the day. It featured a few tight shots at the start, and then you’re ally had to cover some ground to finish this stage. Bryant Willett took this stage with his production gun, David Martian was second with PCC, and Ethan Boudreaux was right behind in Carry Optics.

In the overall match results, it was a tight race across several divisions.

In Limited, Jonathan Jones bested his dad Robert Jones by 12 points to take the win, with Steven Tannetta finishing just 4 more points back.

In Production, Steven Mosher edged Bryant Willett by 14 points, with Steven Taylor another 13 points back.

In Open, Bill Jackson finished 8 points ahead of Jason Smith and Betsy Young.

In PCC, Bill Mahley finished 36 points in front of David Martian.

BPSA November 2016 Two Gun and Shotgun results!

November 19, 2016 2 comments

We had a great turnout today for the Two Gun match followed by the Shotgun side match. We had 29 shooters in the Two Gun match and another 18 in the shotgun match.

The weather was nice, aside from some brisk wind that necessitated us to bring out the sandbags to keep everything weighted down. The competition was just as stiff as names at the top of the scoreboard changed hands several times between stages.

In the Two Gun match, Stage 1 featured the Texas star, and was the most accuracy intensive stage of the day with every paper target having a no shoot. Clayton Patterson took this stage win home with a 27 second run, followed closely by Ivan Deroche and Jeret Howard.

Stage 2 had you starting empty handed with the rifle and pistol staged on separate tables. Bryant Willett took the stage win here with a 28 second run, with Jeret Howard and Joseph Arabie right on his heels.

Stage 3 had you starting with the pistol and the rifle staged down range. Steven Mosher took the stage win here with a 24 second run, with Steve Lashinsky and Bryant Willett right behind him.

After it was all over the final results showed the following winners:

Tactical Division: Steven Mosher
Limited Division: Jeret Howard
Open Division: Bryant Willett

Full results: https://practiscore.com/results/new/28674

In the shotgun match, stage 1 again feature the Texas star, and Ivan Deroche set the pace here with a 15.34 time, followed closely by David Martian with a 15.96.

Stage 2 required 11 rounds, 3 lollipops on the side berms and 5 small poppers on the center. No surprises at the top of this stage, as Ivan again set the pace with an 11.63 and David was right on him with less than two tenths separating them.

Stage 3 was a 12 round stage with 6 lollipops to your left, each in two shot arrays, with the right side being filled out by two plates and four poppers. This stage would decided the match, as David Martian laid down a smoking 13.04 with Clayton Patterson, Joseph Arabie and Trey Nicholson right behind him.

When the dust settled these winners emerged:

Limited Division: David Martian
Open Division: Clayton Daigle
Heavy Division: Ray Sawyer

2016 Mixed Discipline World Championship Results!

October 30, 2016 3 comments

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZvlpysYpDU

The 2016 Mixed Discipline World Championship is in the books, and we certainly hope everyone who came out and competed enjoyed themselves. We had 66 of the best shooters from around the world come out today (mostly from the southeast US..lol).  We had shooters come in from the usual Louisiana and Alabama, as well as several from Texas, Florida, Georgia and even as far as Missouri.  We ran 10 stages in an all day format and it seemed like it ran incredibly smooth.
Now on to the action:
Stage 1 was a 26 round USPSA field course that was all paper at close distance and favored those who had quick fingers.  Nathan Bell edged out David Pape and Steve Tannetta on this one in Limited with a time of 12.30, Ken Cornwell edged out Candice Juliano and Steven Taylor with a time of 13.60 in Production, Bill Mahley topped the stage in PCC and Corey Yates just walked off with this stage in Open with a time of 9.53.
Stage 2 was a 28 round Pro-Am stage that featured a texas star, and two plates at the start that seemed like a sucker bet to go after and not many shooters even opted to go for them.  Steve Tannetta and Nathan Bell tied for the stage win in Limited taking down 17 plates, Corey Yates took down 25 plates in Open, Bill Mahley took down 22 in PCC and Steven Mosher 21 in Production.
Stage 3 was 24 round USPSA field course with a mix of close targets and some tight shots along with 4 pieces of steel.  This one had a pretty straight forward plan with most everyone shooting the same plan, some executing better than others.  Steven Taylor took the stage win in Production over Ken Cornwell and Steve Lashinsky.  Bill Mahley took the stage in PCC, and the recurring them of Corey Yates and Nathan Bell running away with the stage win in Open and Limited continued here.
Stage 4 was a Steel Challenge course, Roundabout.  It’s one of the faster steel challenge course, and you could really tell from the results who does and who doesn’t shoot a lot of steel challenge.  Steven Mosher took the stage win in Production, Roger Henn broke up Corey Yates no-hitter here with the stage win, Chris Plaisance took the stage in PCC and Nathan Bell kept his streak in take in Limited.
Stage 5 was a 26 round Pro-am stage that really rewarded anyone who could shoot small pieces of steel on the move.  As it turns out, no one can really do that well.  Nathan Bell kept his stage streak intact heading into the lunch break with 19 plates, just edging out Randy Bell who was right on his heels with 18 plates.  Chris Plaisance took the PCC win with 23 plates just edging out Bryant Willett who had 22, Steven Mosher took the production stage win with 21 plates, and Roger Henn and Ed Bowling deadlocked in Open with 22 plates.
Stage 6 was a 22 round USPSA field course with most targets at almost contact distance and this one was all about speed.  Corey Yates blew this one clear out the water with a 14+ hit factor and a time of 7.34 seconds.  Bryant Willett laid down a blazing 8.95 time to take it in PCC, and Nathan Bell put up his own 10+ hit factor run here for the win in Limited.  The productions guys (and gals!) rounded it out with their two reloads on this stage with Candice Juliano edging out Steven Taylor and Kerry Smith for the stage win.
Stage 7 was a 28 round Pro-Am style course that featured the texas star partially obstructed by barrels, and those same two 6 inch plates at the start that didn’t seem enticing enough to bait anyone into trying to take them, except the very brave few.  Ken Cornwell laid it down in Production with 22 plates, Chris Plaisance took PCC with 23 plates and an overtime shot, Nathan Bell took Limited with 23 plates and Corey Yates took Open with 26 plates.
Stage 8 was 26 round USPSA field course with 4 steel plates that pretty much came down to two schools of thought, one school being to run the stage straight up within the fault lines, the other being to run around the front of the stage and back into the shooting area.  It was hard to tell which plan prevailed, but we do know that Nathan Bell took the stage in Limited with a time of 15.95, Corey Yates took Open with a run of 10.78, Bryant Willett took PCC with a time of 16 seconds, and Candice Juliano took it down in Production with a time of 17.48.
Stage 9 was a Steel Challenge course, Pendulum.  This is one of the more accuracy intensive steel challenge courses, and again you could look at the results and tell who does and doesn’t shoot much Steel Challenge.  Keen Cornwell took this stage in Production, Bill Mahley took it down in PCC, and Corey Yates and Nathan Bell repeated their ongoing themese in Open and Limited.
Stage 10 was a 25 round Pro-Am stage that featured a 25 second par time, and either a lot of running or some really long shots, shooter’s choice.  Nathan Bell completed the 10 stage shutout here taking down Limited with 22 plates just ahead of Clayton Patterson,  Corey Yates and Roger Henn deadlocked with 24 plates in Open, Chris Plaisance took PCC with 23 plates, and Steve Lashinsky burned this one down with 21 plates to take the production stage win.
Overall Results:
Mixed Discipline World Champion – Open: Corey Yates
Mixed Discipline World Champion – Limited: Nathan Bell
Mixed Discipline World Champion – Production: Steven Mosher
Mixed Discipline World Champion – PCC: Bill Mahley
Mixed Discipline Senior World Champion – Open:  Ed Bowling
