December 2013 Pearlington pistol match results

December 15, 2013 2 comments

The rain didn’t impact us from overnight, but it did turn COLD! It was cold all morning and the Sun didn’t come out until after the match was all but over. A total of 32 shooters made the trip today to Pearlington to try to beat the cold. A few did and a few, well, just didn’t. We also had one die-hard shooter drive all the way from Pensacola. He said it’s always warm in Florida.

The 5 stages were great, but pretty challenging. There were more than a few misses recorded today. When the smoke cleared, there was a clear winner, though. The overall match winner was… Read more…

The Pearlington match is still on for Sunday, December 15, 2013. The rain has passed and was a non-event. It might be a bit chilly, but it should not be a problem. We are planning on 5 stages.

Due to the rain overnight, the expected rain today and the terrible condition of the road into the range, we have cancelled the match for Sunday December 8, 2013.

December 2013 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

I guess everyone was too *stuffed* with turkey to come out and shoot today. Unfortunately, we had only 4 shooters for the match, which was very disappointing. The weather was fantastic, the stages great, but the crowds thin.

After being the runner-up for so many matches, Joe Jones finally won a match today with a consistent performance. While the stages appeared easy, there were more penalties that usual for some, and this resulted in Joe’s big win by simply not making mistakes. He deserved this win by taking 3 of the 4 stages, and placing second in the other one. Congratulations to Joe!

We are going to have to reassess the match status if we can’t get a better turnout than this. Yeah, this was a holiday weekend, but still we expected better than just four. If you enjoy shooting 3-gun and can make most of the matches, we need to hear from you. If we can’t generate enough interest, then it just isn’t worth the effort to set up a match for 4 or even 6 people. It is just too much work for the shooters and the staff with so little help.

October 2013 Pearlington pistol match results **REVISED**

October 20, 2013 Leave a comment

YIKES!!!! More gremlins have struck!!! It was discovered that another squad also had their steel not counted for hits on Stage 2. We discovered this with one squad at the range and corrected it. The first results posted earlier this evening reflected these incorrect results. I have now corrected squad 1’s score to reflect their steel shot on stage 2. If you were in squad 1, then your scores have gone up and others may have had their position changed because of this. his didn’t change the division winners, but did rather dramatically alter the overall and division results for everyone else.

I’m not advocating a return to paper, but I really need to figure out what went wrong today. My apologies for the scoring delays and the mistakes.

The weather has finally turned and it was beautiful this morning. A light chill filled the air and this brought out the shooters in droves. We had 47 shooters today. We can thank Bob Brandt for most of the stage design today, but Bob wasn’t there to enjoy his creations. What wasn’t so nice were some behind the scenes computer glitches. For some reason, everything that could have gone wrong with the Nook scoring, did go wrong. In the end, we got it sorted out, but it took quite a while. And without further ado, lets see who won. Our overall match winner was…

Once again, those darn Cajuns siphoned away many of our regular shooters with rescheduled matches on our day! Please stop doing that!

Of the eleven shooters who did grace us with their presence, all shot a challenging match and a lucky few achieved the pinnacle of success and earned yet another title of Poplarville Match Winner. There were a lot of tough head shots required today and some stages just begged for a slower pace. In the end, a few did survive. The overall match winner was a new face at the top of the heap. **Scores have been updated, we missed entering Robert’s score on stage 4**

This was the match that was not meant to be. Because of Tropical Storm Karen, the match was threatened numerous times with cancellation. But we never did. We set up Saturday afternoon, hoping for the best. Sunday morning came and it looked like we might pull it off. Unfortunately, it didn’t look that way everywhere. While pre-match interest was very high, only 6 shooters ended up making it out. I know of at least 10 more who had committed to coming but were probably influenced by the weather, especially if you lived in Louisiana.

As it turned out, we had only a few light showers, and only one during the match. It ended up sunny and hot! The wind was non-existent. So, overall, it was a pretty decent day. It’s too bad we didn’t have a better turnout. The states were a great mix of challenges with fast, close shooting on some and long range shots required on others. On one state, we had half the shooters time out, because of the demands of the stage. When the smoke cleared, one shooter emerged on top. Read more…

September 2013 Pearlington pistol match results

Aside from someone forgetting to tell the weatherman that Summer is supposed to be pretty much done, it was a great match today. It was hotter than normal for this time of the year but we had 39 shooters with a pretty good mix in the divisions. Today was a go-fast day with lots of stages where you just needed to squeeze the trigger, fast and often. If your gun or ammo didn’t work perfectly and you couldn’t execute perfect reloads, then it was not your day. Four of the five stages were won with a hit factors of 10.0, 12.5, 10.5 and 11.5. Only the classifier was under 10. If you saw the front sight a lot, then you were probably too slow.

The overall winner took the match by a reasonably comfortable amount, but after that, they bunched up pretty well. The Overall match winner was Robert Jones who also won Limited. In Open, Bill Jackson beat the rest of the field and took second overall. Steve Lasavia was fourth overall and first in Single Stack. Once again, Production was highly competitive where Steven Mosher managed the most consistency and therefore won that division. And finally, Gerald won Revolver.

As always, your match staff appreciates the help in match setup and tear-down. We couldn’t do it without you. Next month, we are back to the normal schedule with Biloxi the day before Poplarville and Pearlington a week later.

A late season heat wave gripped the range today and made shooting just slightly less than pleasant. Well, actually, it was pretty damn hot. For whatever reason, we had only 13 shooters today. Maybe it was because the CAS match got rescheduled to today. Or, maybe it was the weird calendar quirk that made this the second Sunday but the second Saturday hasn’t yet occurred. Normally, we shoot Biloxi, THEN Poplarville. Whatever the reason, those that didn’t come missed another great match. We did have one new shooter today, who did great and we hope he comes back to shoot again. (If you do, you might want to bring some more mags…).

In the end, it came down to one careless mistake at the loading bench. Had it not been for a squib on his first stage, Gerwin Henn would probably have won the overall match. However, because it occurred so early in the stage, he zeroed stage 5. Even with giving up the better part of 140 points, he still took 4th overall. But that’s the way it goes. The overall winner was Read more…
