October 2018 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

The fall 3-gun season finally got back in action at Poplarville today with a great match. Unfortunately, it was only enjoyed by a small turnout. We aren’t quite sure where some of the regulars were, but they missed some really challenging stages. The weather was still on the hot side, especially for October. But cloud cover and occasional breezes made it a bit more bearable at times.
The four stages really tested the full range of skills, and plenty of us found out where our weaknesses are. There were some challenging (for some) really long rifle shots, the little rifle auto-poppers bedeviled some even at reasonable distances, there were lots of makeups on shotgun plates that weren’t that hard, and even some pistol no-shoots just 5 yards sucked in way too many shots. Oh, well. That’s what it’s all about. Test your skills and see who has mastered them.
That question was answered quite definitively by the end of the match. The overall winner and Scoped Tactical champion was consistent enough to win all 4 stages today, and usually by a big margin. With a convincing 24% lead over second place, Read more…

September 2018 Biloxi (DSSA) pistol match results
The threat of rain seemed to scare off a bunch of people today (38 total shooters, down from 56 at the peak of registration), and it’s too bad because we had a quick but challenging match today. Only one pistol shooter managed to shoot clean (way to go, Gerald!). We shot 3 classifiers in addition to 2 regular field stages, with the thought being we would get rain around the middle of the match, and we wanted to try to move things along to head that off. It turned out the weather man was full of baloney today, because we were never even threatened by rain.
The classifiers were challenging in their own right. One featured a bit of everything with 3 strings that included 3 draws, two mag changes and strong hand and weak hand shooting at a mix of open and partial Classic targets. Another required little to no aiming, but focused on how rapidly you could squeeze the trigger 5 times in a row. The field courses featured a good mix of partials with a few open targets thrown in to make you change gears often.
When the scores were finally synced, there was a new face at the top of the heap. Congratulations to Read more…

September 2018 Poplarville pistol match results
Even a “hurricane” earlier in the week couldn’t kill this match and we shot under fair skies and on a dry range. While it was warm (hot, maybe?), there was a breeze most of the morning and it really wasn’t too bad, weather-wise. A total of 44 shooters made it out to be challenged by 5 tough stages, and most found it deceptively difficult. Nothing looked too hard at first glance, but there were only 3 shooters with a no Mike or No-shoot day so that pretty much says it all.
Probably the worst peril we faced today was not the weather, but the love bugs. It’s that time of year again and they were EVERYWHERE! Hopefully, no one inhaled a mating pair while shooting.
OK, so let’s get to the scores. That’s what we all want to know. Since it was John Nguyen’s birthday yesterday, he took the day off today and that left some room at the top for a new face. The overall winner for today came from the Limited ranks, and not the usual Open division. Congratulations to Read more…
