October 2018 Poplarville 3-Gun match results
The fall 3-gun season finally got back in action at Poplarville today with a great match. Unfortunately, it was only enjoyed by a small turnout. We aren’t quite sure where some of the regulars were, but they missed some really challenging stages. The weather was still on the hot side, especially for October. But cloud cover and occasional breezes made it a bit more bearable at times.
The four stages really tested the full range of skills, and plenty of us found out where our weaknesses are. There were some challenging (for some) really long rifle shots, the little rifle auto-poppers bedeviled some even at reasonable distances, there were lots of makeups on shotgun plates that weren’t that hard, and even some pistol no-shoots just 5 yards sucked in way too many shots. Oh, well. That’s what it’s all about. Test your skills and see who has mastered them.
That question was answered quite definitively by the end of the match. The overall winner and Scoped Tactical champion was consistent enough to win all 4 stages today, and usually by a big margin. With a convincing 24% lead over second place, Kevin Leonhardt pretty much lapped the rest of the field. Justin Myers took a distant second, but it was really the Kevin clinic today. His only issues today were some less than stellar shotgun reloads, but it really didn’t hurt him at all. The rest of us just need to practice more!
While the setup took several days, we had such great help that it was just about 1/24th of a day to get everything packed up and put away. There was lots of steel to gather and I really appreciate the help in getting it rounded up and loaded. Thank you to everyone for coming out. Please bring a friend back with you next month.
