BPSA April 2017 USPSA Results!

We had 68 shooters turn out today for the BPSA April 2017 USPSA match. We had quite a few new shooters come try the sport for the first time, as well as some old hands getting in one last tune-up before next week’s Single Stack and Revolver State Championship.

We had a little rain shower before the match got underway, but after that it was smooth sailing, although the high winds caused a few reshoots knocking over some of the poppers.

Now on the the action:

Stage 1, Can You Count, was a 20 round classifier that tested your ability to shoot really fast, really close, and count to five. Steven Mosher was a loose cannon on this stage with a 11.99 hit factor in production, followed closely by David Pape in Single Stack with a 11.76 hit factor.

Stage 2, Popup Blocker, was a 21 round stage that did not feature any popup targets, but required some backward movement from the start. Ethan Boudreaux took top honors here with his Carry Optics rig with a 15.22 second run, and Stanley Wade and Paul Jaccod were right behind him in Limited with 16 second runs.

This was also known as “the only stage that matters” for both Ruth Mahley and CJ Williams, as they both beat their husbands on this stage. They say it’s always good to try hard and leave it all out on the field, and for Bill and Adam they left a little piece of their manhood out on Stage 2 today.

Stage 3, In Sync, was an “N” shaped array of tight targets with a mix of steel. Bill Mahley sought redemption here and found it, lapping the rest of the field by more than 20% with a 10+ hit factor. Stanley Wade was the next competitor in sight, with a 8.11 HF in Limited.

Stage 4, Right Turn Clyde, was a 20 round medium course with a mix of partial targets and steel. Bill Mahley continued down the war path with another 20%+ stage win here with an 8.8 hit factor, with Michael McDonald (the shooter, not the singer) next in line with a 7.0 hit factor.

Stage 5, The Little Things, featured a swinger and our two newest target additions, two little 6″ square plates that were sure to frustrate many. Bill Mahley again took this stage, albeit not by as big of a margin. His 5.0 hit factor was just 8% ahead of Paul Jaccod’s 4.7 in Limited.

When the final results were calculated, the division winners were as follows:

Ethan Boudreaux took first out of five in Carry Optics by nearly 18% over second place Matthew Dozier.

Stanley Wade shot Limited Minor and took home the 1st place win out of 16 in the division and 3rd overall out of 68th. Paul Jaccod was 2nd just 4% behind.

Bill Mahley took 1st overall and 1st in open by nearly 19%. Lee Frasier took 2nd here.

Gary Kerr won 1st in PCC by 16% out of a record high seven that showed up to shoot long guns. Calvin Lindsay debuted his new toy and took 2nd place.

Steven Mosher took Production, with Ken Cornwall right behind him by 3% for second place out of twenty Production shooters.

Gerald Benton took 1st in Revolver out of one. I guess it’s safe to assume no one else felt they needed to practice Revolver for next week. We’ll see how that works out for them.

Single Stack saw a surge in turnout as folks prepped for next week. Out of 13 shooters, David Pape came out on top with Steve Tannetta right behind him. Both these guys are normally limited shooters, but I guess you could say they give zero stacks whether they are shooting single or double stack, it’s all the same.

BPSA February 2017 USPSA Results!

February 26, 2017 Leave a comment

We had 64 shooters come out today for the BPSA February 2017 USPSA match. The weather was perfect, and the match ran fairly smooth, aside from the bottleneck we had on the two speed shoots that shared a single bay. And the pizza showed up and just the right time!

Now on to the results:

Stage 1, Close Quarter Standards, was the 24 round, 3-string classifier. Overall stage winner here was Gerwin Henn shooting Limited, followed by Steve Tannetta also shooting Limited.

Stage 2, Swinging Bill, was a 12 round speed shoot, which featured a bill drill on a 20 yard swinger. The stage was also Virginia count. Having dot on your gun proved to be useful here, as the stage winner was Roger Henn, followed by Bill Mahley, both shooting Open.

Stage 3, Roscoe’s Star, was a 9 round speed shoot featuring mandatory reload and a 18 yard star, which proved to be quite the challenge for most shooters, most especially the new ones. Lot of time and brass was spent here, despite it only being 9 round minimum stage. Again, the dot on top of the gun proved to be useful, as the stage winner was Roger Henn followed again by Bill Mahley. The top non-dot finish was turned in by Todd Dempster, with a 10 second run.

Stage 4, Drop Turn Distance, was a 16 round medium course that featured a 15 yard drop turner with two disappearing targets. Steven Mosher had it dialed in here for the stage win shooting production with run of 10 seconds.

Stage 5, Tilt Right, was a 20 round medium course that had 2 pieces of steel, and a variety of plan options. Roger Henn picked the right option, and won the overall stage with a time of 13 seconds.

Stage 6, Speed Bumps, was a 26 round field course that was the biggest of the day, and required the most movement. Roger Henn again took the stage win here with a 17 second run.

When the final results were compiled, Ethan Boudreaux won Carry Optics, Gerwin Henn won Limited, Michael Ramos took Limited 10, Roger Henn edged Bill Mahley by a mere 2 points to take Open division by less that half of percent, CJ Williams won PCC, Steven Mosher won production, Gerald Benton took revolver, and Adam WIlliams edged Daryl Fury by only 3 points to take Single Stack by less than a percent overall.

Want to thank everyone for coming out and shooting, and especially for the hard work in running squads and tearing down stages after the match. Without the team effort, none of this would be possible.

See you the next match!

BPSA January 2017 USPSA Results!

January 22, 2017 Leave a comment

Had a great turnout for today’s classifier match, despite the threat of rain this morning. The AM schedule got off to a rainy and windy start, with us having to replace the targets after a storm or two went through. The PM schedule of course went off without a hitch and we were done in about 3 hours. We also had some tasty pizza and cold drinks in between.

This was the first time we tried 8 stages, and the first time we tried AM/PM schedules for a local match. It made for nice squad sizes of 7 or 8 and kept things moving. Of course if you shot both schedules and packed in 16 stages it made for a long day!

We also had our first junior clinic, which was well attended and a big thanks to Gerwin Henn for staying around for an hour or two to pass his knowledge on to the juniors. Look forward to having these frequently in the future. If you have or know a junior looking to get into the sport, bring them to one of these!

Now, on to the action!

Stage 1 was Disaster Factor. Gerwin Henn came up tops with his 1911 in Single Stack with a 7.07 run with 53 points, and Al Prieto was right on his tail in Open with an 8.35 second run and 57 points.

Stage 2 was More Disaster Factor, and Gerwin was tops on this one with his L10 rig, followed by himself again with the Single Stack. The top shooter here not named Henn was Gerald Patch in Open.

Stage 3 was Times Two, and it was again won by Gerwin Henn in Single Stack, followed closely by Thomas Arthur in Limited.

Stage 4 was El Prez, won by Steven Mosher in Limited with Roger Henn .03 points behind with his L10 rig.

Stage 5 was the Roscoe Rattle and it was topped by Thomas Arthur in limited with a smoking 10.1485 hit Factor.

Stage 6 High Standards which required some sho/who shooting and you can tell who is ambidextrous as Steven Mosher took 1st and 2nd here in production and limited. Gerwin Henn in SS was a distant third.

Stage 7 was mini mart, and Steve Tannetta burned this one down with a 9.5868 hit Factor. Pro Tip: Don’t rob the Tannetta Mini Mart.

Stage 8 was Fluffys Revenge 2, this was the only Steel out there today, and Steve Tannetta had this figured out as he won 1st and 2nd handily with his L10 and Limited rigs.

Overall Results:
Herman Cox won Carry optics.
Steven Mosher won Limited and Production.
David Pape won L10.
Bill Jackson won Open.
Bryant Willett won PCC.
Gerald Benton won Revolver.
Gerwin Henn won Single Stack.

Want to thank everyone who came out and shot, pasted, helped run squads, and tore down. It really is a team effort. Especially appreciate everyone’s patience during the storm and in helping get the sandbags out and targets out back up. And of course huge thanks to those who come out at 6am and setup stages, without them none of this would be possible.

See you at the next match!
