February 2012 SMPSA 3-gun match results

February 5, 2012 Leave a comment

The results are in! We had 13 shooters today (on SuperBowl Sunday) competing over 4 tough stages. The weather was a bit iffy in the morning, and the drive up the hill was a challenge for the early birds, but everyone made it in OK. It ended up a pretty nice day, weather-wise, too.

Before the scores, a brief explanation of the scoring. Each stage is scored by raw time plus penalty time. The shooter with the lowest total time is awarded 100 stage points. Every other shooter earns a percentage of the 100 points based on their performance, compared to the top shooter. The shooter’s total time is divided into the top shooter’s total time to get a percentage of the total available points.

The results aren’t too much of a surprise, but it was close. Read more…

Pearlington match Sunday

January 11, 2012 Leave a comment

Welcome to the new web site.  I am looking forward to keeping shooters informed as to what is going on for the Pearlington match.  I plan on having

  • Absolutely gorgeous weather
  • Five stages

The classifier will be 99-08 Melody Line.  Set up will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm, anybody that wants to help will be much appreciated.  Also, anybody with any stage ideas would be a great help.  I have been running this match since August of 1996, and I am running out of ideas.  Please send me your thoughts on some stages, or just come help set up what you want.  Hammer down @ 9am Sunday January 15th, hope to see you all there.

Poplarville work day (**Updated**)

January 8, 2012 4 comments

Sorry, everyone. The work day is actually Saturday, February 18, 2012 and the makeup is February 25. I had Sundays on the brain when I looked at the calendar.

Every year, Poplarville has a work day to clean up, fix up and generally improve the overall range.

While participation in the workday is entirely voluntary, we really could use your help, even if for just a few hours. We will be posting further information about what we need done and what you should bring, but if you can, put this on your calendar.

January 2012 SMPSA Shotgun match results

January 8, 2012 Leave a comment

The results for the shotgun have been posted. We had 6 shooters hang around for the scattergun fun, and we shot 3 decent stages of fun. Today was birdshot and slugs. Once again, if you can load your shotgun rapidly, you do well.

The match winner was Cameron Thompson by over 14 seconds. But, best of all, two of the new pistol shooters also stuck around to shoot shotgun as well. Thanks, guys!

The final scores are posted here.

January 2012 SMPSA pistol match results (**Updated**)

January 8, 2012 3 comments

The scores have been edited and updated to reflect Cameron shooting Minor. He was originally scored as Major. He still won Limited, though. Sorry folks, it was a long day.

The pistol results are in (finally)! But, they are subject to the following. The score sheet for Nick Saucier for Stage 3 was messed up. It is incomplete and unusable, so it hasn’t been included in the scores. Nick shot Limited, and shot well, but the loss of all the points from a stage certainly affected the Limited scores. He wouldn’t have won, but he might have moved up one spot. Nevertheless, the rest of the scores were respectable. (Update: Nick’s score sheet for stage 3 has been deciphered. His scores are now correct, along with the rest of the match scores).

We had 15 shooters for the first match of the year, which is decent, but not great. We did have three brand new shooters with us today (Gus, Reed and Tony). They did great, especially for new shooters. They shot safely and displayed excellent pistol handling skills. If they continue to shoot, their times will no doubt improve. Thanks for coming out, guys. I hope you come back next month. Read more…

USPSA news

January 3, 2012 Leave a comment

In case you hadn’t heard, the USPSA election for president went to a runoff, and in a bit of a surprise, Phil Strader beat out Michael Voigt for President. To see the results with the numbers click here.

In other USPSA news, the board of directors has voted on new rule changes to take effect in January of 2013. Rules for Limited guns are to change slightly (click here) along with similar changes to Limited-10 (click here). All this really does is remove the requirement for manufacturers to produce a certain number of guns before it could be legal to shoot in the Limited and L-10  divisions.

However, the proposed changes for Production and Single Stack are causing a bit of a stink among those shooters. Read more…
