The crispness of the early morning gave way to a spectacular day, and 30 shooters were rewarded with a great match. With six stages and over 150 shots, it made for a challenging, but fun match. Between the gully stage and the fixed time steel monster stage, there was something for everyone.
The results were really never in question, with Read more…

November 2016 Poplarville pistol match results
Fall has finally arrived for the shooting season. The 3-gun match last week and today’s pistol match were about as pleasant as you could ask for, considering this is south Mississippi. The turnout was pretty light today, partly due the state level Steel Challenge match in Biloxi. In all, there were 15 shooters. Out of that, we had three first-time ever shooters. They all finished with no problem, and appeared to have a great time. We hope you come back for more in the future!
We tried something a bit different today with the stage setup. Instead of setting up one stage in each of the usual bays, we set up two stages side by side, in three of the bays. This was in part due to the left-over stages from the three-gun match last week, and part due to just trying something new. It seemed to work out, as no one waited on the “other” squad today.
Let’s talk results. The overall match and Open division winner was Read more…

November 2016 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

For the second month in a row, the weather was great. Nineteen shooters came out for 3-gun competition today and were treated to some really challenging stages. More than a few discovered their scope wasn’t zeroed as well as they hoped. With a flash target at 400 yards, you found out pretty quickly if you were on target. The short range stages also proved to be more challenging than the first glance may has offered.
When the scores were finally tallied, there was once again just one name at the top. Our winner today was Read more…

October 2016 Poplarville pistol match results
It was supposed to be Fall, but someone forgot to mention that to the weatherman. It was pleasant in the morning, but as the day wore on, it got a little warm. By Noon, when we finished up, it was pushing the upper 80’s. Yes, we will take that over the last two rain-outs, but gosh, it’s been pretty nice for a while, and we deserved a picture perfect day. Oh, well.
Turnout was down a bit from our 2016 average, but it was decent. This was a makeup match and we are thankful for everyone that came out today. In total, there were 25 shooters and 7 (seven) stages. That’s a little misleading because we borrowed a group of 3 stages from the 2016 Limited/Open Nationals. This included a stage with one shot on a single popper, a stage with 6 shots on one targets, and then a slightly modified El Prez for the final stage. There was also a “Pittsburg” stage that featured 21 steel targets and no paper. That one proved to be more challenging for the RO and shooters who were watching, as the splatter managed to get almost everyone at least once.
The match was never really in doubt, with the overall match win going to Read more…
