July 2014 Pearlington pistol match reminder

July 19, 2014 Leave a comment

The weather looks a bit iffy for tomorrow, but we are still on, as of 8 PM on Saturday. We set up this afternoon and the range was fine. However, the forecast is a 60% chance of rain for tomorrow. Please check here for any update before coming out, just in case it rains tonight. If there is no notice of cancellation, we will be shooting.

We are expecting a larger than usual crowd because EAPS had to cancel. If you are coming, please try to show up by 8:30 AM or earlier.

June 2014 Pearlington pistol match results

Father’s Day. That one day of the year when we are supposed to get to do what we want. For a few of us, it was shooting. Twenty-five guys came to play and with the setup gods smiling, we were finished shooting by 11:40 AM and packed up by Noon. That was good, because it got a little warm today. Because of the heat, we shot only four stages, but three were 32 rounders with quick action and just a tad of challenge. Well, make that more than a tad of challenge. Close targets and lurking no-shoots tempted fate once too often.

There were no surprises on the leader board today. The overall winner and Open division winner was… Read more…

May 2014 Pearlington pistol match results

For an off-schedule match, this one turned out great. Because the Mississippi Classic falls on the same weekend as the Pearlington match, we reschedule the May match for the first weekend of the month. This, along with the stellar weather contributed to a great turnout. A bunch of shooters from the Jackson area came down to get one more practice match in before the big match in two weeks, and the locals turned out in droves as well. In all, 52 shooters participated in the competition.

The top spot was hard fought all day long, but in the end it was Read more…

April/May Pearlington match announcement!

April 13, 2014 Leave a comment

The April version of the Pearlington match, scheduled for April 20, has been cancelled because it falls on Easter. Tom doesn’t have enough candy or eggs for the usual crowd, so you get the day off!

Also, because the May Pearlington match falls on the same weekend as the Mississippi Classic, the May match has been rescheduled to the first Sunday of May, which is the 4th. So for the next two matches, things are a bit off normal. Please make sure to tell your friends about these to changes so they don’t show up and find no one home.

March 2014 Pearlington pistol match results

The day began with a downpour and it scared lots of people away. But, we had 12 brave souls bring their rubber rafts and we had a match! Since it was a classifier match, many of the regulars decided to take the day off. There were but 60 shots required to complete the match in regulation today and even though we got a very late start, we were done shortly after noon and with only one squad shooting, we were able to pick up the stages as we finished them. There were only 3 or fewer stands per stage, so it came down quickly.

Since a classifier match is a “special” affair, the overall results aren’t all that meaningful, unless you happened to have won. Tell that to…

March Pearlington match reminder *UPDATE*

It is raining right now ((6:45 AM) at the range, but all stages are set up and it is expected to clear up around 9:30 AM. We are going ahead with the match although there will likely be a delayed start. Since we are shooting a classifier match, movement on the stage is minimal or non-existent so you won’t get too muddy. The stages are quick so it won’t take forever. If you need some classifiers, then come on out. If you just want to shoot, and don’t care, well, come on out as well! What’s the very worst that could happen!?

On Sunday, March 16, 2014, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Practical Shooters will hold its annual Classifier match. We will shoot six classifiers instead of the usual four stages and one classifier. If you are new to USPSA and classified yet or just want to get classified in another division, this is a way to get there. You need six classifier scores to get classified by USPSA and you can get all of them in one match. Since classifiers are usually quicker to shoot as compared to normal stages, the match should not take as long as normal.

However, the weather is threatening to cancel the match. As of now, the match is still on, but check back here before coming out tomorrow to see if there has been a change of plans. We will have the final decision posted by 7 AM on Sunday.

For those interested, the classifiers being shot are:

  • 03-02 – Six Chickens
  • 99-11 – El Presidente
  • 99-14 – Eye of the Tiger
  • 99-23 – Front Sight
  • 99-62 – Bang and Clang
  • 13-01 – Disaster Factor

If you would like to see these stages, go to http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-classifier-list.php where you can preview the stages to be shot and get your game plan made.

Another match in the books for Pearlington, but, alas, your fearless reporter was overseas for work and couldn’t make it. The results are a bit stale by now, but that doesn’t detract from those that won. The overall match winner was a new face in the top slot in Pearlington. Read more…

January 2014 Pearlington pistol match results

Well, lets call that a trifecta. Last weekend, Biloxi and Poplarville had perfect weather, and today in Pearlington, it was also perfect weather. I guess that is payback after December rain washed out two of the three matches and drizzled on the third overnight and made the going sloppy. Not today, though. You couldn’t ask for better. That prompted 42 shooters to come out for another round of stimulating stages and camaraderie with some of the nicest people on the coast. It seemed to be a really great match today with lots of comments about it.

The results show that the match winner wasn’t really challenged for the top stop. None of the division matches were close either. All winners had a margin of at least  4% and most were bigger. Congratulations are in order for match winner.. Read more…
