March 3-Gun match in Poplarville cancelled
Unfortunately, we have to cancel the 3-gun match scheduled for this weekend (Sunday, March 3, 2013).
February 2013 Poplarville pistol match results
It turns out 13 was a lucky number today. We had 13 shooters on a very iffy day, but they all lucked out, at least with the weather aspect. The skies threatened all morning, but never delivered the goods and we stayed dry for the most part. There were just a couple of very light 1 minute showers, but we never actually got real rain. We also managed to finish shooting by 11:30 AM, which is unusual, and we were packed and on the way by 12:30 PM. Chances are good that the rain moved in shortly after.
The stages were typical (challenging), and the shooters were typical (no one new), but the winners and divisions were a bit jumbled. Our overall match winner was… Read more…
Poplarville match reminder
We are still planning on shooting tomorrow in Poplarville. The rain may move in later, but for now, we are on. Please check back by 7:00 AM for a final decision. If a cancellation notice HAS NOT been posted, then we are still on.
February 2013 Poplarville 3-Gun match results
Super Bowl… What Super Bowl??? While the turnout was a bit light today, the shooting was definitely SUPER! With 4 stages of varying skill level and shot count, we tested six shooters in all disciplines. From long, 3-gun affairs to quick, 2-gun speed shoots, we had it all. And, did I mention to bring your scopes? With rifle shots off the spring platform out to 400+ yards, you needed to know where your rifle shot to not waste a huge amount of time on Spring Hill. January 2013 Poplarville pistol match results
The first match of the year is in the books, and we lucked out with the weather. Although we had a brief shower during the last stage, it didn’t disrupt the match all that much. A few scoresheets got wet but that’s about all. Oh, did I mention the road in? Well, that wasn’t too good. We lost a truck to the slippery clay, but he was pulled out safely with no damage to the vehicle. Everyone got out though. However, the hill is just two big ruts now.
The shooting today was great as 20 competitors tested themselves on 5 challenging stages. Nothing was taken for granted as seemingly easy targets managed to elude more than a few shots. Steel was found on all stages except the classifier, and our Texas Star was shot through a barrel. A couple of shooters managed to shoot the match cleanly, but that didn’t always guarantee victory. January Poplarville pistol match reminder
The January edition of the SMPSA pistol match will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at the range in Poplarville. The weather is looking a bit iffy right now with a 60+% chance of rain, so please check back here before driving to the range. We will make a call no later than 6:30 AM on Sunday. As most of you know, it isn’t so much the rain in the pit that is the problem. If we get rain tonight or in the morning, it can make it almost impossible to actually drive up the hill road to the range without 4 wheel drive.

January Poplarville 3-gun match reminder
Our first 3-gun match of the year will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013. The weather should be OK by then, but it might be a bit chilly to start. The match will begin at 9 AM.
