South Mississippi Practical Shooting

The first match of the year is in the books, and we lucked out with the weather. Although we had a brief shower during the last stage, it didn’t disrupt the match all that much. A few scoresheets got wet but that’s about all. Oh, did I mention the road in? Well, that wasn’t too good. We lost a truck to the slippery clay, but he was pulled out safely with no damage to the vehicle. Everyone got out though. However, the hill is just two big ruts now.

The shooting today was great as 20 competitors tested themselves on 5 challenging stages. Nothing was taken for granted as seemingly easy targets managed to elude more than a few shots. Steel was found on all stages except the classifier, and our Texas Star was shot through a barrel. A couple of shooters managed to shoot the match cleanly, but that didn’t always guarantee victory.

Our overall match winner and Production winner was Bo Gray, our only Master class shooter. Josh Benton took the top Limited spot and was second overall. Nate Taylor won Limited 10 and the ever reliable Gerald Benton recorded yet another Revolver win. Congratulations to all the shooters. Click on the score sheet at the right to see all the scores.

I think we found the lower limit of squad size, because at 6-7 shooters per squad, it just didn’t seem to go all that smoothly. We really need everyone to help paste or reset steel when you aren’t shooting. However, we did manage to finish reasonably early today.
