November 2017 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

The November match seemed, at times, more like May or September. It started out with a low fog that kept Sun at bay for a couple of hours and it was pleasant during that time. Eventually, the fog burned off and it got warm, especially for November. But it was still a great day to be shooting. Or so it seemed…

The stages were set up to be fair and easy, and they turned out to be at least one of those. Not one single shooter got through the match without a decent chunk of penalty seconds. That spoke to the sneakiness of the setup. Some looked easy but turned out to be tougher than first glance. Others just begged the shooter to go fast and quite a few sped their way to penalty city. I guess it really wasn’t as easy as we thought.

We also welcomed a pistol only shooter who “just wanted to get some trigger time.” Have you ever heard that old saying that says don’t bring a knife to a gun fight. Well, if you scale it up, it doesn’t apply. You CAN bring just a pistol to a 3-Gun match and be successful. Our match winner was that lone pistol shooter. Even though he changed magazines to simulate changing gun, he still smoked the entire field. He finished with a raw time almost 60 seconds faster than the next best raw time. Even factoring in his 5 misses on long range steel (80+ yards out to 130 or so), he still tore it up. Congratulations go to  Read more…

October 2017 Biloxi (DSSA) pistol match “results”

The only one that made a worse call than us today was the weatherman. The forecast was for light rain by around 11 AM, so we made the decision to have have the match. Bad decision. Just about the time we got the last stage set up, the rain began. It didn’t really let up until we got everything torn down, right about the time it quit raining (for a while). By that time, there had been INCHES of rain in a couple of hours and water flowing out of the bays like rivers. Fourteen shooters were crazy enough to try to get the match in but we only managed to shoot one stage per each of the two squads, so there are no final results since no one shot both stages.

Many of the folks that did come out made the right decision to not shoot at all. Some got their match fees back. Those that didn’t but didn’t shoot will get a rain check for their next match. If you did try to shoot and only got one stage in, you will also get a rain check.

So, what did we accomplish today? Well, we wasted a bunch of targets. Even though we bagged all targets before the rain started, many still got wet and were trashed. We had hoped to get some practice in for the Gator next week, but that really didn’t happen, unless it rains there, too. We did have some quality BS time while we waited for the brief gaps in the rain bands talking about how great we were going to be in the Gator next weekend. So, it wasn’t a complete washout, but we just weren’t able to get a full match in. We tried oh so hard.

We’ll be back at it next month. Good luck to those shooting the Gator next week!

The rain held off and the temperatures stayed cool for the 49 competitors that came out for today’s match.  We ran six stages, including a classifier, that all required a great mixture of strategy, speed, and accuracy.  A huge thank you goes out the the Dupuy family for all of the help with set up, and specifically to Blayne and Bryce for designing and building the two stages that most people seemed to enjoy the most.  These two young men are outstanding examples of what makes this sport great!  On to the results!

Open shooters ruled the day, taking the four of the top five spots,   Read more…

Brothers N Arms October USPSA Match Clarification

October 9, 2017 Leave a comment

I have been made aware that the combination of the first Sunday in October also being the first day in October and my having sent the match reminder a week earlier than usual has caused some confusion.  So, for clarity’s sake, the Brothers N Arms USPSA October Pistol Match is on October 21st, the third Saturday, NOT this coming Saturday, October 14th.  For all of you that have registered, you are good to go, there is nothing for you to do. If, however, you thought you were registering for a match on the 14th and cannot make it on the 21st, just send me a withdrawal notice.

I’m very sorry for any confusion, let me know if you have any questions!
