September 2012 Poplarville 3-gun match results
3-gun has returned to the Poplarville club after a brief break for the Summer. Apparently, someone forgot to tell the organizers it is still Summer! It was hot today.
The weather, the holdiay weekend and possibly even Hurricane Isaac kept a lot of shooters home, so we only have 8 people show up. But that didn’t put a damper on the shooting action. It seemed there lots of cobwebs and rust all over the shooters today because no one seemed to do it perfectly. Read more…
August 2012 Poplarville pistol match results
The threat of rain never materialized, so the footing conditions were just great. However, the humidity was so high, that most shooters were soaked by match end. That didn’t deter some great scores though. We had 20 shooters, including one two new to the sport and one new to the club, and 5 great stages to test their endurance. The heat took a toll on some, but didn’t seem to bother others.
For the second straight month, we had a big surprise in the scores.

July 2012 Poplarville pistol match results
The rain did come today but it only caused a 30 minute delay to the match start time. We had to replace quite a few wet targets, but once we got going, we rolled. We had thirteen shooters take a chance with the rain and win big. We shot five great stages and actually got done reasonably early, considering the rain and retargeting exercise.
With thirteen shooters, we actually had 5 divisions represented today. So, there were lots of winners. And the envelope, please… Read more…

June Poplarville Night Match
Our first night match of the season was held on the sultry evening of June 23. If you haven’t shot a match at night, then you don’t know what you are missing. We all think we are prepared to defend our home in the middle of the night, but without actually shooting at night where you in a strange environment, you probably aren’t ready. Low light, no light, blinding flashes, treacherous movement, inability to see your shots or results, all go into making a night match the most challenging type of shooting we do.
Tonight, we shot four stages under occasionally threatening skies, but the weather held, and we finished by Midnight. Read more…

May 2012 Poplarville pistol match results
Another match is history. While it was Mother’s Day and therefore, the turnout was a bit light, we shot four really interesting, challenging stages and a classifiers that some might be seeing in their sleep by now. The weather could hardly have been better. It rained a fair amount on Saturday and the road in was a bit slippery, but today, it was perfect. The temperature was great, it was overcast most of the time and humidity didn’t seem bad. The fourteen people who told Mom “I’ll be by later!” got some final practice in for the Mississippi Classic to be held next week in Jackson.
The scores are done and winners are in the books. So who won? Read more…
May 2012 SMPSA 3-gun match results
It started out to be a nice morning, but as the day wore on, it got hotter and hotter. Fortunately, two of the stages had pop-shade set up to keep the shooters out of the Sun. We’ll try to get them all covered next time.
Speaking of next time, the next 3-gun match will be in September. If you have to ask why, then you weren’t out shooting with us today. We take the Summer off because it just gets too hot. The 3-gun matches take longer than USPSA, and there is more setup and pickup and resetting stages takes longer, and people just get worn out. Watch the calendar and reminders for the Fall return of 3-gun.
We had 17 shooters today, with a mix of old faces and a few new ones. Thank you to everyone that came out on such a great day. We appreciate all the great help setting up and picking up. At least in my squad, the help was outstanding. Everyone pitched in and stages were always reset and patched quickly.
We shot 4 challenging stages today. The round count was not outrageous, but the stages were quite challenging. Once again, the 500 yard rifle target reared it ugly head. Yes, it was still a bonus target, and no, no one hit it today. One of the stages was nicknamed “Top Shot” for the lack of a super high round count and focus on fundamental skills, such as loading and aiming, but in the end it seemed to go over well with the rest of the shooters. In the end, the winner wasn’t much in doubt. Read more…
