June 2019 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionWe FINALLY managed to shoot a match at Poplarvillle, after being rained out since February. And, it took a rescheduled match to make this one happen. It was Father’s Day and really hot, so the turnout was down from the normal crowd, but those who did show up got some nice, simple stages (wink, wink).

We were just happy to be back after being gone for so long, but the range is showing the wear from the weather this spring. The road is in pretty bad shape, although the actual shooting bays aren’t too much worse than they were in February. We will need to get a dozer to fix the road, because the ruts from this spring have turned into permanent features. Oh, well…

Although the field was small, it made for a quick day. We were done shooting by 11:30 and out the gate by Noon. We had just 4 stages, including one classifier, but by the end, no one was complaining. You see, it was really hot and humid and it took a toll. I, for one, was done after 4 stages. I think others were too. The excuse was to get home to celebrate Father’s Day, and I’m sticking to that line.

When the dust settled, there was a familiar face at the top. Your overall winner was Roger Henn, who also took Open division. Roger has been on a roll ever since the 2018 Nationals and is really hitting on all cylinders lately. Jason Welch took the win in PCC and was second overall. First in Carry Optics went to Blayne Dupuy, while Ken Cornwell took the win in Production. Steve Tannetta was the top Limited shooter to round out the divisions.

Since we have gotten rained out so much recently, we weren’t able to do the usual membership renewal in April. But we got a good start on it today. Almost all the shooters chose to renew their club membership and help us improve the range over the coming year. We really appreciate your support and couldn’t do it without you. Thank you.

As usual, our shooters are the best at helping get things torn down. We really appreciate everyone who is able to help with this thankless job, especially when it is so hot.
