February 2019 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

February is always an iffy month, weather-wise. Today, we lucked out and got a really pleasant day for 3-gun. By the end of the match it was in the low 70’s and the sun was out. And that made for some fun stages for the 16 shooters in the match.

The four stages looked straightforward, but proved more challenging than expected. We finally got to shoot some long-range rifle at the beginning of a stage, which meant there was no excuse accepted along the lines of being out of breath. This helped quite a few people with their hits on the long steel. On that stage, there were also paper pistol targets out to 50 yards.

It seemed like everyone enjoyed the stages and we had two brand-new to 3-gun shooters with us today. In fact, at 10 am, yesterday morning, we only had 10 people registered. By this morning, there were 16. Word must have gotten out about the fantastic stages…

In what seemed to be a Groundhog Day-like result, Kevin Leonhardt was the clear winner, both of the overall match and of all four individual stages. In second, but almost 29% behind was Clayton Patterson. Penalties did most people in while Kevin, once again, shot a clean match. That is the key to success in 3-Gun. But everyone managed to get through without a DQ, so it was a good day all around.

Your match staff appreciates the great help in picking up everything up after the match was over. We also thank everyone from coming out to support your favorite 3-Gun match and club!

It was a long day and I apologize for the lateness of the scores and write-up, but, well, it was a long day. Thankfully, it was February and not July! We’ll see everyone next month, and don’t forget about the USPSA match next Sunday, same place, same time.
