January 2018 Poplarville 3-Gun match results
After a week of extremely low (for us) temperature all over South Mississippi, Sunday saw a return to moderation. Although the breeze kept the felt temperature a bit cool, it was actually 60 degrees when the match ended. That sure beats highs of the 30’s earlier in the week.
The much improved weather convinced 18 folks that today would be a good day to get back outside and have fun in the woods of Poplarville. With 4 deceptively challenging stages, plenty of shooters found ways to affect their scores negatively. Only four shooters shot the match clean.
It was a close match today. Coming out on top was Kevin Leonhardt but only by 1%. Hot on his heels was David Martin. Both of these shooters attended the Ben Stoeger pistol class in Biloxi in December and this may have helped separate them from the rest of the pack. In any event, they were clearly better than the rest of the field today. Rounding out the podium was Aaron Fitzgerald. Most of the rest of the field just had too many penalties.
Thank you to everyone for coming to the match today, and especially to those who were able to help get everything packed up and put away. Don’t forget about the USPSA pistol match out here next Sunday.
