October 2017 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

The match director promised great weather in the match announcement this week, and Mother Nature delivered. While Friday and Saturday were sunny, hot and humid during setup, today was the complete opposite. The cloud cover provided relief from the direct sun and kept the temperature moderate. There was a nice breeze all morning that kept things cool for pretty much the entire match. This was our first match of fall and it pretty much felt like that (sort of). It made for a pleasant day.

The turnout was a bit light with 15 shooters making it out to the range and they were treated to four stages that weren’t overly long, tricky or hard to shoot, but they did test the shooting skills all around. Once again, we were reminded that those that can reload the shotgun fast ALWAYS do better. And it only took one stage to figure that out.

With his second 3-Gun match win in a row Kevin Leonhardt established himself as a force to be reckoned with. His victory today was by a bit more than 9%. In second place was Jason Welch who won two stages outright, but saw his chances for a win slip by on the big shotgun stage. He shot well there, but Kevin set such a high mark no one could even approach.

We had two brand new to 3-Gun shooters today and they both did great. I think they enjoyed the match enough to come back and do it again. Thank you to everyone who came out to shoot with us today, and especially to everyone who did such a great job getting everything picked up. I also received several compliments about the match and stages and that goes a long way in making it all worth the effort. I look forward to seeing everyone next month.
