June 2013 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson Precision

Once again, the weather was iffy in the early morning, prompting a few phone calls and emails. But, in the end, we had a great day of shooting. The rain held off until well after the match was over and packed up, and it was partly cloudy most of the time so it wasn’t too hot, too often. The only real issue we had was with the road up the hill. One poor car slid off the side and had to be pulled out. The omnipresent white van of fun didn’t even make the attempt (smart move, Bob!).

We had 15 shooters make the trip today and while we only shot 4 stages, we still had a great match.  Our match winner was … Max Michel who also took the Open division. Bill Jackson won Limited, with usually competitive Production division going to Randy Havard. Limited 10 was taken by Nate Taylor, with Gerald Benton and Bob Brandt scoring the wins in Revolver and Single Stack, respectively.

Today’s match was a first for our club. The entire match was scored electronically using the PractiScore program. We used an iPad and two Nook handheld devices to create the match, and then score it. It actually went off without any major hitches. No scores were lost in the process and the best part was the fact that the entire match was scored within a minute or two of the final shot being fired. The only significant effort went into moving the information from PractiScore over the the USPSA program we use call EZWinScore. This part took a little while, but only because it was the first time we have done it this way. Now that the process is known, it will go even better next time.

The help today tearing down the match was superb. We were packed and ready to leave by Noon. Thanks to Bob and Tom for literally cutting shooting ports in brand new walls on site for today’s match, and to everyone who pitched in to help. We also had several more people join the club which helps with the funding. We really appreciate that!

Hey Bill using those nooks was a capital idea, but we will have to give Winston special lessons. Randy P L2459
