March 2012 SMPSA pistol match results

Congratulations to the 22 shooters we had today. The match came off without any major hitches, and the weather was reasonably cooperative. It was alternately sunny, then cloudy, and always breezy, but thanks to a new stock of old brake rotors courtesy of Wayne, stands blowing over wasn’t an issue. One squad shot so hard that they broke two small poppers off their bases. In reality, the poppers were pretty much worn out and just died. We had one unfortunate disqualification, though.

The scores were recorded pretty well, too. There were a few math errors (easily fixed) and a couple of shooters who forgot to number their score sheets or numbered them wrong, but no missing times or shot counts coming up short. When the smoke cleared, and the results computed, there was a surprising winner at the top.

BO KNOWS! While we have had Production shooters win the overall match before, I think this is the first time Bo Gray has been the overall match winner and top Production shooter. Congratulations to Bo for a well deserved victory. Two stage wins, a second, a third and a seventh propelled him to the match top shot. Remember, the Production guys have only 10 rounds of baby bullets, so this is quite an accomplishment.

Second overall and first in Single Stack was Wayne Alcock. Mat Price took Open division and Good Ole Gerald (Benton) took high Limited. Sadly, the best Limited shooter was fourth overall. It just goes to show you that more bullets in the gun doesn’t help if you can’t get them to the right spot fast enough.

We had excellent help in setting up and tearing down the stages today. Thank you to everyone who helps. For those that stuck around after the match was packed up, the Brown family rocked the range with some Tannerite targets. If you haven’t seen this stuff go boom in person, it is pretty impressive.

The next day pistol match will be April 8, 2012.

Cograts Bo. I was just thinking the other day how far you have come in the last couple months. Good shooting.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.

    Way to go Bo!
Being the only RO on the squad, and a “brand new RO” , didn’t slow yo butt down!

    Thanks for the kind words!

It was an excellent match today, with a wide variety of fun stages and interesting challenges– so props to the stage designers and everyone who set up in the morning.

I wasn’t the only RO– Jason was quiet, but he got his certification from the same class that I did, and REALLY helped out throughout the day! Tom’s vast experience also payed dividends, and between the three of us, we ran through the match without a hitch.

I’ll see some of you in AL next weekend, and hopefully the whole group next month back at the good ol’ sand pit!
