January 2013 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionThe first match of the year is in the books, and we lucked out with the weather. Although we had a brief shower during the last stage, it didn’t disrupt the match all that much. A few scoresheets got wet but that’s about all. Oh, did I mention the road in? Well, that wasn’t too good. We lost a truck to the slippery clay, but he was pulled out safely with no damage to the vehicle. Everyone got out though. However, the hill is just two big ruts now.

The shooting today was great as 20 competitors tested themselves on 5 challenging stages. Nothing was taken for granted as seemingly easy targets managed to elude more than a few shots. Steel was found on all stages except the classifier, and our Texas Star was shot through a barrel. A couple of shooters managed to shoot the match cleanly, but that didn’t always guarantee victory. January Poplarville pistol match reminder

January 12, 2013 Leave a comment

The January edition of the SMPSA pistol match will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at the range in Poplarville. The weather is looking a bit iffy right now with a 60+% chance of rain, so please check back here before driving to the range. We will make a call no later than 6:30 AM on Sunday. As most of you know, it isn’t so much the rain in the pit that is the problem. If we get rain tonight or in the morning, it can make it almost impossible to actually drive up the hill road to the range without 4 wheel drive.

December 2012 Poplarville pistol match results **UPDATED**

**Scores updated**

A scoring error was detected and the scores have been updated. The update affects Production and the overall scores.

We ended the year on a high note today. We had a good turnout with 22 shooters making the trip to the range. The weather was very pleasant, with overcast skies all day keeping things cool. We shot 5 great stages, and the only real downside was an unfortunate choice of the classifier. It was only after I started entering the scores that I realized this classifier (09-12) had been retired at some time in the recent past. This means that it can no longer count as a classifier, but we still count it as a normal stage. I am sorry for this oversight on my part. Hopefully, you didn’t shooter a killer score that you needed to move up.

As it was, the rest of the stages were challenging and different, with high round counts. There were lots of steel targets on some stages, and a bunch of missing props on another. Due to a trailer tire blowout, we were faced with a plethora of no-shoots on the Benton house, but not much else. It still challenged the shooters with only 8 of 22 shooters shooting it clean.

The list of winners looks typical but with a twist. Read more…
