South Mississippi Practical Shooting

If you are a current member of the Brothers N Arms USPSA Chapter, your membership will be up for renewal next month.  If you’re not a member of the chapter, this is your chance to become one for the next 12 months.  Paying a $25 annual membership fee will reduce your match fee from $20 to $15.  If you’re going to shoot this match more than 5 times over the next year, it’s a no-brainer – just bring a total of $40 to next month’s match, $25 to join or renew and $15 for the match fee.  See you at the match!

Registration is open for the August USPSA Pistol Match at the Brothers N Arms Range in Hattiesburg  this Saturday, August 18th. This month’s will be a “Special All Classifier” match where we plan to have six classifier stages.  This will give new shooters a chance to get a classification all in one day.  If you’re an experienced shooter looking to get a classification in a new division or to move up in your current division, this is a great chance to do so without having to shoot six matches.

Primary setup will take place this Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  If you are available to help, please reach out to Justin Greene with Brothers N Arms for details.  Final setup starts at 7:00 am Saturday morning and all hands are welcome to help speed up the process.  Registration/check-in ends at 8:30 am.  No walk-ons after 8:30, no exceptions.  There will be a new shooters meeting at 8:30 and a mandatory safety meeting at 8:45. The match starts promptly at 9:00 am.

Well, we finally caught a break with the weather!  The rain we received earlier in the week was not enough to ruin the range conditions and, while it was still a hot day, overcast skies and a decent breeze kept it very bearable.  We had 40 shooters in attendance to shoot five fast-paced stages, including a deceptively difficult classifier that seemed to give a lot of folks trouble (including me!).  Thanks to all of the outstanding help with setup and teardown, most everyone was finished up before noon.  We can’t tell you how much your efforts are appreciated!

Today’s “burn ’em down” type stages definitely favored the Open shooters, with the top four spots going to that division.  At the end of the day, however, there was one very clear winner. Read more…
