September 2019 Biloxi (DSSA) pistol match results

With the G-Man back in the driver’s seat, the difficulty stepped up just a bit. No high hit factor stages were present today, but there were plenty of long shots, tight shots, no-shoots and a fair amount of steel. All these factors seemed to challenge folks more than normal. Be that as it may, it was still a fun match.

The weather wasn’t too bad, with just a bit of heat and sun at times, but nothing like this Summer. The turnout was decent with 40 shooters navigating the 5 stages. There were a handful of new shooters today and everyone seemed to get through the match OK. Thank you for coming out to shoot with us today!

For those who previewed the scores at the range or got them on PS moments after they were posted, there was a mistake in scoring that, when corrected, resulted in a change to the top few positions. At first, I was surprised and delighted to see that I finished 3rd overall and had beaten my mentor, Gerwin, in head to head competition with open guns, but it was not to be. A procedure penalty on me on stage 2 was recorded improperly. Once it was updated, I dropped to 5th. Darn it. But I would rather beat him fair and square, than by a fat fingered mistake, and that day will come…

Today saw the return of several shooters who had been on break for a couple of months, but it was clear they didn’t totally forget how to get it done. Maybe a bit of rust seeped through, but they dominated the match as they have been doing for quite some time. However, the final scores showed Roger Henn was sitting on top of the pile with both the Open and Overall wins today. Phillip Sexton took second with Matthew Dozier taking a very strong 3rd place ( both Open and Overall). Scott Jacob was the PCC division winner today, while Steve Tannetta was tops in Limited. Jay Merritt took the Production win and Herman Cox took the Carry Optics trophy.

Thank you to the entire setup crew for getting us going on time and for everyone who was able to help get the match torn down. Your help is always appreciated. Next month’s match is scheduled for the same weekend as the Gator Classic, so we may have to make alternate plans. Please make sure you check the usual places (here, social media, Practiscore), before just showing up in October.
