May 2018 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionWe finally caught a break with the rain that plagued the late winter and spring season and were able to shoot on the normal day. For the past two months, we had to delay the Sunday match to the middle of the next week, which cut out quite a few people. The afternoon matches were great and the weather was wonderful, but it was mostly the retired folks who could make it. Today, we had to contend with Mother’s Day, which happens every year. But the match turnout was decent with 32 shooters enjoying the abundant sunshine.

Since the Mississippi Classic makes it’s triumphant return next weekend, we set up stages that were a bit more challenging than normal. Today featured lots of hard cover and a greater than normal no-shoot population. Tough shots put everyone to the test, hopefully getting ready for next week. The Classic stages look great, but none of them look like they will be easy. Good luck to everyone who is shooting.

When the 5 stages were complete, the winner was once again a familiar face to the Poplarville podium. Congratulations to John Nguyen for the Open and Overall match win. His performance was convincing, winning by almost 5% over the nearest competitor. First in Limited and second overall went to Gerwin Henn, who had a rough go with stage 5 but apparently didn’t suffer too much because of it. UPDATE: David Pape actually won Limited division, but Gerwin was second overall. The corrected results have been posted on PS, at the link in the computer image below. Blayne Dupuy took the Carry Optics win, while his brother Bryce won Production. Chris Brown rounded out the winners with his Single Stack performance.

I did get quite a few compliments on the stage design today, and I want to thank the Dupuy family for help in not just setting up but also in the design part as well. They have been great for our club and I am not sure what I would do without their support and help.

We had another batch of folks renew their club memberships today and they get my eternal thanks for their support. We have some pretty big plans for range work this year and your support will make a lot of that possible. And certainly, last but not least, thank you to everyone who was able to help with picking everything up and getting out of there in good time, hopefully to go home and spend the rest of the day with Mom.

As some of you already know, the club is now on Facebook. If you are a Facebook person, please feel free to follow us there so you can get more timely notifications of things going on in Poplarville (well, at least at the range…). You can search for “South Mississippi Practical Shooting Association” or just go here to find us. This web site will continue to contain the detailed content as it always has, and we will use Facebook to complement what we do and say here. That is, once I figure Facebook out!
