May 2017 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

We tied the record turnout for 3-gun, at least in the modern era, with 25 shooters actually showing up and shooting. The weather was spectacular and the stages equally as fine. The stages were reasonably balanced but none were pushovers.  All were challenging in their own way. Some figured them out and some didn’t.

The match scores were a bit delayed today because we had lots to pick up and no one waited around for the scores, so I just waited until I got home to actually combine everything. I wasn’t surprised at the results, and I don’t think anyone will be, either. On top of the heap, once again, was Justin Myers, with the overall win and the Scoped Tactical division win. The win was convincing, but not a total runaway.  Justin won two stages, and second-place Brandon Guillory won the other two, but Justin’s 2nd and 3rd, beat Brandon’s 3rd and 4th. Wayne Alcock took Heavy Metal and John Nguyen took Open. There were only three shooters who shot the match clean today, but the winner wasn’t one of them. Usually, he/she who shoots clean has a big advantage, but that wasn’t so today. Justin is just that good.

Thank you to everyone who came out today to shoot and tie our turnout record. We greatly appreciate your support. And most importantly, we will not be shooting 3-Gun in June, July and August, because of the heat. We still shoot USPSA pistol during the Summer, but 3-Gun will resume in September.

A special congratulations also goes to Morgan Leonhart, the 9 year-old daughter of Kevin. Although she shot the match using her .22 rifle in place of the pistol and shotgun, she did great. It’s wonderful to see juniors starting so early. Way to go, Morgan!

The match scores can be accessed by clicking the score computer to the right. Enjoy your Summer off. I know Wayne and I will…

Many thanks to all that came out, and for all the help with tear down. I really appreciate the kind words, and as always, hope it was worth the drive to everyone that participated.

Morgan was in my squad, and she was a pleasure to RO and watch. The youngsters are the future to our sport, and she did an excellent job. I’m sure her dad is very proud.
