April 2017 Poplarville 3-Gun match results
As late as Friday night at 8:30 PM, there were only 4 shooters registered for the match and it was looking a bit bleak. However, the word must have gotten out because we ended up with 18 at match time. We can certainly live with that.
The weather threatened but never actually materialized. The four stages really challenged everyone today, with only one shooter going clean for the match. They were hard, but fair, and begged you to go a little too fast, and many did. There was also an overabundance of head shots with the rifle, and this caused problems, too. However, the pace moved along well, and there wasn’t too much waiting. The gully was in play once again, and vexed many shooters with a tough slug shot at a tiny steel plate.
The match winner didn’t actually win any stages, but his consistency and lack of a “death stage” rewarded him with the victory. Congratulations go to Jason Welch for his close win over second place Wayne Alcock. In fact, place 1 through 4 were separated by only 9 points. Two of those in the top four could have won the match without even just a few of their penalties. But it didn’t work out for them.
The club wishes to thank the shooters who chose to renew their membership today, which helps to cover our rent. Last year, we had 44 members. Let’s see if we can beat that this year. We are off to a good start. We also want to thank those shooters who were able to help with getting the props picked up. These matches are hard work to set up, and by the end of the day, we are dog tired. Having that help makes a world of difference.
Next week is the monthly pistol match, so come on back for more fun in the woods.
