February 2017 Poplarville 3-Gun match results

After two months of rainouts, we finally got some great weather for 3-gun. It was unexpected for February but certainly welcome. The stages were challenging, to say the least. We had a great turnout, with 22 shooters trying to pace themselves over the four stages of fire. With such tough stages, we didn’t actually fire the last shot until almost 3:30 PM, and that made for a looooooog day!

While stages 1 and 2 were reasonably normal and were negotiated by most shooters with just double digit times, only 2 shooters were under 100 seconds (raw) for stage 3. This one proved exceptionally challenging, with only 6 shooters going penalty free. Stage 4 was in the gully and the weather was great for it, but it was still difficult. Although only two guns were shot, the rifle part required a minimum of 49 shots for those double-tapping the paper and one solitary steel plate. The run was from the beginning to the end with targets along the whole way. The times were quicker than stage 3, but it required significantly more adrenaline.  This was the one stage that just wasn’t competitive. Justin managed to literally run away from the field with a time of just over 50 seconds, with second place 14 seconds behind.

That kind of performance led to yet another win for Justin Myers, who won by the overall match by more than 13%. In second was Brandon Guillory who shot well, but gave up too many points on stage 3. The other notable score was turned in by Wayne Alcock, who was shooting heavy metal, and still finished 4th. That’s .308, a 12 ga. pump and a .45 single stack for those counting…

We had quite a few new shooters today, including one lady, which is great. Today’s match isn’t typical of what we normally do, so don’t think it will be this hard all the time. I hope everyone had a good time and got their money’s worth. Thank you to all the shooters for coming out today and supporting our club. We appreciate it.

Finally, one more round of thanks goes to everyone for helping to get things picked up at the end of the match. Wayne and I thank you. Let us know if you liked today’s match.

Enjoyed this course quite a bit. Challenging and didn’t mind the extra time to complete it. Made for a really fun day.
