February 2015 Poplarville pistol match results

Dawson PrecisionThis was an interesting day today. February is always iffy on the weather, but it was great today. Not too hot, not too cold, sort of a Goldilocks day for weather. It was the turnout that was a bit surprising. We had the largest turnout since June 2010, with 34 shooters competing for the top spot. We had quite a few regulars, but also a first time ever shooter and quite a few first time for us shooters. The clubs thanks everyone who came out today to support us. Unfortunately, we hadn’t planned on the big numbers and it caused a few logjams.

As most of you know, our shooting bays don’t always allow all stages to be shot concurrently. Today brought that home with a exclamation point. Try as we might, we just couldn’t keep it going and several squads waited, and waited, waited. The last group finished after 2 PM, so it made for a long day, but thankfully, the weather was pleasant.

With the delayed finish, the results are just now being posted for most shooters. Our overall match winner was Steven Sanders, who also took first in Limited. He outshot the entire Open division, and did so by more than 6%. And to rub it in even more, second overall went to Gerwin Henn, another Limited shooter. Open was won by Max Michel, Sr., with Chris Brown taking Production, Clayton Welch winning Revolver and Russ Smith on top in Single Stack. In another notable statistic, we had 5 women shooting with us today. I’m not sure if that is a record, but if not, it was close to one. The match didn’t seem that tough but apparently, it challenged everyone but Steven and Gerwin.

I cannot thank all the shooters who came out today enough for their support, especially with the longer than normal waits between stages. We appreciate your patience and will make sure this doesn’t happen again. Another special thanks goes to everyone for helping tear down the stages. It has been quite a while since we had this much support at the end, and it makes things a lot easier on the match organizers when you do this. If anyone has any comments, good and especially bad, please leave your thoughts in a comment to this post. We will do our best to address any and all concerns.

Finally, a number of shooters are headed to the Florida Open next week. We hope everyone who is shooting there does their best and found that today’s match was just the sort of tune-up they needed to be ready.

Good to see so many people out to enjoy the match. I hope everyone had a good time, and found the stages fun but challenging. Thanks again for all the help, it was really nice to finish up on the last (late) stage and find the rest of the entire match torn down. Thank you. Hope to see everyone back soon, and good luck in Florida.
