August 2019 Biloxi (DSSA) pistol match results

After a brief one month break, we got back in action at Biloxi. The rain held off for the entire match, but the heat and humidity didn’t. At times, it was downright oppressive. But, hey. We had fun!

Possible weather concerns kept the turnout lower than normal, with just 28 shooters completing the 5 stages of fire. Things moved along smoothly and I don’t think any squads waited on anyone today. That was nice. Because Gerwin and Roger were still out on fish business, it was up to the team to fill in. We had several guest stage designers today. Special thanks goes to David Pape and Steve Tannetta for stage 5, and Jason Welch and John Nguyen for stage 4 (both design and setup were done by those duos, with setup help from others). Bryce Dupuy also designed stage 3 for us today. If you enjoyed their work, please let them know. If you didn’t, well, then come on out next month and set up what you like to shoot! We are happy to have designs from anyone.

The rather light turnout didn’t keep the competition from being the usual fierce battle for supremacy, but when everything was tallied up, there was a clear winner. By a margin of about 6.5%, John Nguyen took the Open and Overall titles today. In second overall and first in PCC was Jason Welch. I’m sure that was a fun ride home as those two rode together, where Jason probably had to listen to John talk about how awesome he was today. And he was that, with 3 firsts and a 3rd and 4th on the overall stage competition. Carry Optics was dominated by Blayne Dupuy but Ethan Boudreaux (second in CO) SMOKED the classifier with a 100% run. Great job, Ethan! The Limited title went to Bryce Dupuy, while Single Stack was taken by Steve Tannetta. Congratulations to all the winners today and thank you to everyone who made it to the match. We really appreciate your support. Gerwin and Roger should be back next month (thankfully)!

As always, thank you to everyone for the help in getting things set up and especially getting the stages taken down. At the end of a long, hot morning, it was really appreciated. And in closing, someone left a mag brush on a table at stage 2. If it is yours, let me know and I’ll make sure it is returned.
