Another match is history, we had 31 shooters willing to shoot after a frog choker rain storm. Fortunately our range drains well and by 11am what little water we had dried up. There were 5 good stages thanks to the brain child of Bob Brandt. L10 was dominated by Kevin Walker. Revolver was bested by Robert (Lightnin) Konrady. High Single Stack was Joel Senia. High Open went to Brett Greene. Brian Dolly was High Limited and last but certainly not least was High Overall and High Production was Justin Myers.

We also had a bunch of new shooters, welcome to Action Pistol shooting and thanks for coming out. Also thanks to those who came early and helped set up and tweak the stages and those who stayed to help break down and put everything away. Next month will be a 6 stage Classifier Match, anybody wanting to get Classified before the Mississippi Classic or get Classified in a new Division needs to go to this one. Till next Match.

USPSA Nationals slots available in Mississippi Section

The Mississippi Section has received a total of 8 slots for the USPSA Handgun Nationals. We received 5 slots for the Limited/Production/Revolver match which will be held October 13-16, and 3 slots to the Open/Limited 10 Match which will be held October 17-20. If you are interested, both matches will be held in Las Vegas. The match fee is $270 (juniors pay half price).

The slots are available on a first come-first serve basis and are open to Mississippi Section members. You must have a slot to enter this match, so if you think you want to shoot, please contact Bryant Chaffin, our Mississippi Section Coordinator, by email at chaffdb@atnmail.com or call 601-467-9422.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Practical Shooters Association will hold their monthly USPSA sanctioned pistol match this Sunday at the range in Pearlington at 9 AM. There is a chance of rain on Saturday but Sunday looks to be nice. Check here for any weather updates on Saturday evening.

Work day reminder Cancelled

The work day scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2012 has been cancelled due the weather. We are not rescheduling the work day at this time.

This Saturday, February 18, we will be at the range to clean up the place and regrade the shooting bays (thanks to Gerald). Works will start around 9 AM and probably last until mid-afternoon. If you can make it, bring gloves, trash bags, leaf rakes and something to eat. We will not be shooting, so please don’t expect to practice, at least this Saturday.

Right now, there is a 70% chance of rain on Saturday, so please check back here before coming out. We will post the status of the work day before 8 AM on Saturday morning.

February 2012 SMPSA rifle match results

The rifle match was a quickie today, because we had just 5 shooters. We shot three of the pistol stages from the USPSA match (minus the steel) and were done in probably 30 minutes. Our match winner was Wayne Alcock, mostly due to his quick work in the pistol classifier (and the fact that he shot a major gun).

If you wussed out and didn’t show up because it was “too cold”, you should be ashamed. It was a bit breezy, but by the time the Sun came up, it had warmed up to almost 40° and by the time the match ended, it was 50°. We did have 17 shooters who did think it would be worth it and we had a great match. We shot 5 stages, with lots of steel and the new MGM Whirly-Gig target (aka: Texas Star).

Things went pretty smoothly with no real hiccups in the stages or the scores. There were no bottlenecks or DQ’s. So, it was a great day. Let’s get to the results.

The overall match winner and Open winner was Max Michel, who cruised to an easy win. First Limited and second overall was Cameron Thompson. The Production winner as Bo Gray and Wayne Alcock took Single Stack. Click the score sheet to see the match results.

It was actually a bit boring today, with not much to write about or needle. So, I’ll just thank all the shooters who helped set up, and to tear down. We really cannot do it without you. Planning is one thing, but the actual work can’t be done by just Wayne and myself, so we really appreciate the efforts of those shooters.

The next day pistol match will be March 11, 2012.

If you can make it out to the range next Saturday, February 18, we are having a special work-day. We will be cleaning up, straightening up, and sprucing up. If you come, we will be there about 9 AM. Bring work gloves, a leaf rake and a few trash bags.

Poplarville will host the monthly USPSA pistol match and afternoon rifle match on February 12, 2012. The weather will be chilly, so dress warmly.

February 2012 SMPSA 2-gun match results

The results are in! We had 13 shooters today (on SuperBowl Sunday) competing over 4 tough stages. The weather was a bit iffy in the morning, and the drive up the hill was a challenge for the early birds, but everyone made it in OK. It ended up a pretty nice day, weather-wise, too.

Before the scores, a brief explanation of the scoring. Each stage is scored by raw time plus penalty time. The shooter with the lowest total time is awarded 100 stage points. Every other shooter earns a percentage of the 100 points based on their performance, compared to the top shooter. The shooter’s total time is divided into the top shooter’s total time to get a percentage of the total available points.

The results aren’t too much of a surprise, but it was close. Our winner was Wayne Alcock, but only by a hair over Cam Thompson. Wayne edged Cam by only 0.63 match points. From there, the gap starts to widen. Joe Jones took third and Lawson, with a big win on stage 2, was fourth. Click on the score sheet (at right) to see all the results.

February 3-gun match notification

Sunday, February 5, 2012, we will hold our monthly 3-gun match (weather permitting). Because it is on SuperBowl Sunday, we will try to be done at a reasonable hour, for you die-hard football fans. We will have many new props out for the first time, so be prepared. Bring plenty of all three types of ammo.
