October 2013 Poplarville 3-Gun match results
**Scores have been updated, we missed entering Robert’s score on stage 4**
This was the match that was not meant to be. Because of Tropical Storm Karen, the match was threatened numerous times with cancellation. But we never did. We set up Saturday afternoon, hoping for the best. Sunday morning came and it looked like we might pull it off. Unfortunately, it didn’t look that way everywhere. While pre-match interest was very high, only 6 shooters ended up making it out. I know of at least 10 more who had committed to coming but were probably influenced by the weather, especially if you lived in Louisiana.
As it turned out, we had only a few light showers, and only one during the match. It ended up sunny and hot! The wind was non-existent. So, overall, it was a pretty decent day. It’s too bad we didn’t have a better turnout. The states were a great mix of challenges with fast, close shooting on some and long range shots required on others. On one state, we had half the shooters time out, because of the demands of the stage. When the smoke cleared, one shooter emerged on top.
That shooter was our perennial 3-gun champ, Wayne Alcock. Although Joe Jones, who took second, actually won two stages to Wayne single stage victory, Wayne’s consistency was the margin. Some shooters struggled with equipment issues, from balky shotguns to scopes not sighted in. But it was still a great match. Everyone had a good time, and we picked up the stage as we finished so final clean-up was a breeze. Click on the score sheet at the right for the match results.
Your match staff appreciates all the help from the shooters, and regrets that there weren’t a lot more to enjoy the hard work. Maybe next month…
